I Sprung A Leak On My Left Side

Hello everyone I had RNY surgery on 12/23 and was told that my left side was where the most work was done and it would be sore.  Tuesday night after I took a shower I went to put a gauze over the incision on my left said.  As I was feeling I hit a scab off and when I went to look I was pouring like a waterfall.  It was a thin yellow liquid with a touch of red in it.  I called my surgeon and he said it sounded like platelets, but to some in and see him in the afternoon.  After he looked at it and packed it for me he said it was fine and no infection.  This whole time I had a tight lump on my left side and I thought it was just the muscle that was swollen.  Well it was not it was my skin filling with this liquid.  Just wanted to let everyone know about this.  I put in 7 years of research before I was able to have the surgery, and never did I read about this.  My surgeon said it happens in 1 and so many people and of course I am also that one lucky person in everything I do.  All is fine now and my side feels so much better just wanted to put this out there in case anyone else may have a left side lump.

I would freak!  Glad you got in to see your doctor and that you're alright now.  Out of curiousity, my surgeon leaves a drain in for 1 week. Did you have a drain?  The fluid you described is exactly what was coming out of my drain. Blech!

I had a drain in for 1 week too and that does sound exactly like what I've been draining.  In fact, the incision that held the drain still hasn't completely closed up and I still have a little leaking every day......sigh.....I'll be glad when it stops!

You are not alone. I had Lap RNY on 12/9/08 (1 month ago today) and I developed a leak at 7 days post op. My drain was still in, however, when the leak was detected. So the drain is still in, 1 month later. Just waiting for it to heal and stop leaking.

My drain was put on my right side.  I had surgery on 12/23 went home on 12/25 and the drain was removed 12/29.  I have had no problems at all where my drain was that is all closed and healing nicely.  The left side is where all the work was done and I had a knot there I thought it was the muscle that was cut into had just swollen.  Little did I know it was all liquid.  I am just glad I am all leaked out now or I hope.  =o)
