How long did your left side pain last?

I had surgery on 12/11, so just alittle over 3 weeks out.  Last weekend I had my first situation with getting food stuck, two days later it happened again. Both times I know the food was too dry and/or I ate too fast.  It was hell until I spit up, but that wretching really took it's tole on my muscles I think.  I was sick yesterday with diarhea and dry heaves and today I'm even more sore. I'm not sure if it's sore or pain, lots of times I'd call it pain. I'm just wondering when it will go away.  How are you guys doing pain wise?

I'm 2 weeks out and my pain comes and goes. I know if I over do it with the walking that I will be sore at night. But other than that I am practically pain free.

Meet the Surgeon Aug 1, 2011 .... hopefully the surgeons office is right and everything will go fast and I'll have surgery later this month.

it's kinda like I get cramping feel and in order to get rid of it. I have to do more walking weird huh.

Well, I'm the slow healer of the group.  I also have type I diabetes, so that tends to complicate things as well.  I was constantly having pain and taking percocet until about 3 weeks out.  I am now 3w5d and have just started being able to lay on my sides to sleep without pain.  Even that is not perfect yet.  I can't wait to get a good night's sleep.

Hang in there, it will pass soon!

Have you tried laying on your side with a pillow half under you? The only way I can sleep on my side is if I have my body pillow to lay and lean into.

I still have my drain in since my 12/9/08 RNY, so I am in pain on my left side all the time. But what can you do?  Just bad luck.  Hang in there.

Thanks for all your replies. Shystermom -Sorry to hear you still have a drain, how come? I had one for a week.

Ok for those of you with pain still, is it only sometimes, or all the time? Mine I notice mostly when I sit up from lying , or get in or out of a car, things like that. Do you think the pain is muscular?

I turned out to be the 1 percent that had a leak.  It was discovered at my 7 day post-op appointment and was not observed during surgery despite doing the leak tests intraoperatively.  So my surgeon says I have to wear the drain as the leak is healing. He assured me I don't need another surgery and that all leaks eventually heal. But I'm probably wearing this thing until February. I guess I'd rather the gunk out of my body through a drain than inside and giving me an infection or something, but this IS a real pain. What can you do? Nothing. I still don't regret doing this and know that in the end, it will be worth it.
