Lap Banders - how long til you went back to work?

Hi there:

My biggest worry isn't the surgery but the recovery, and how slow/quick/painful it may be.

I need to get back to work as soon as possible as I have a new position at work, new boss, new staff, new internal customers... I guess I'm having a hard time with saying I'll be out for surgery in this situation.  I'm under pressure to go to some all day meetings not long after.  One part of me says a short flight, a stay in a nice hotel and a day sitting shouldn't be too bad, but I don't really know.

The liquid diet is the easiest part - just bring the shake powder along.

I went back to work in exactly 1 week.  I had my surgery 12/22 and went back to work 12/29....I was a little tired, but no regrets.

My surgery is on Tuesday - just a bit behind you.  I am certain that I will be VERY tired of liquids and I am just starting - oh well.  I am trying to distract myself from food entirely because I am pretty hungry on shakes!  But it is great seeing a few pounds come off - my body already feels more comfortable and my pants are not as tight!  (I couldn't admit to myself size 20, so squeezing into 18s).  Let me know what pureed foods you enjoy when you get there!

I went back to work in 2 weeks.  I had my surgery on the 23rd and with the holidays I was able to recuperate until the 5th when I went back to work.  I wasn't even ready at that point, I was still sore and a little tired but it helped me to get back on track.

Thanks for your post!  The holidays were helpful because I felt well rested going into my surgery on the 6th!  I started work after 1 week, but did some half-days working at home which was helpful.  My doctor note would go up to 2 weeks, but now that I am at my 2 week bandiversary that option is over!

Just take whatever time you need to rest.  I kinda felt guilty for resting because I almost felt like I was still being the lazy person I was before surgery but you've gotta do what you gotta do to get better, right?!!?

I hope you are doing better now.......it's hard but so worth it!!!
