Lower Left Abdominal Pain. Anyone else? Info?

Hi All,

I have been having pain in my lower left abdominal area since getting the staples out.  Like 2-3" left of my belly Button and about 1" below.  It's mostly triggered by movement on my right side (yes, pain is on left though).  It's a sharp burning type pain.  Is this where the "tubes" are re-joined?  I had an RNY on 12/10.  I HATE how long it is taking me to feel better.  I still use the Percocet liquid about once a day when I can't take it anymore.  I'm trying not to use it as I know it is addictive.

I'm just bummed I'm so sore, still haven't been able to sleep on anything other than my back, and the soft foods diet is getting old.  Sorry to complain.  Yesterday I think I had my first "what did I do to myself" pitty party moment.  I'm down 17.5 from surgery, and have been stalled at that for a few days, but I suspect that's because I stink at getting my water in and have been really trying the last few days.

For anyone else with Diaraheah, I had it from day three until 2w3d.  Finally seems to have settled into somewhat more normal bms now.

Good luck to all getting done shortly and all of us recovering!

Hi Ellen,
I just had my surgery the 23rd and I will tell you what I was told.  My surgeron told me that most work is done on the left side and it will be sore for awhile.  My is sore but not bad.  It sounds like you had an open RNY and my was not.  My bms are still loose but always remember liquid in liquid out. Just think how not long from now you will be feeling so much better, looking better and having a ton of energy.  When I start to get alittle sore I walk right now it is just back and forth across the living room as it is cold and snow outside.  My poor dogs have finally decided we are not going anywhere and just sit and watch now.  Here's to you feeling better very soon and nothing but smiles.

Hi Ellen,

I had RNY on Dec. 22, and my only pain is on my left side, not so far down my side, but just below my breast.  It's sharp pain sometimes, but I walk around a bit and it gets easier to handle.  I try not to sit too long at a time, just get up and walk around the house, or even go to Walmart just to walk around in the store...however, that usually ends up costing me money.  LOL

I hope your pain subsides quickly.

Hello,  I have the same left pains but like the other lady said before me that the most work was done there I also get up and walk and sometimes I burp and that helps. I am two weeks post and no pain medicine it will get better. Far as what you are eating I am going crazy what is your doctor allowing you to eat?  I have been trying to be creative where I get protein in but some seasonings.

I am a little over 3 1/2 weeks post op and I feel really good now.  But I had the pain in the lower left side, including burning for about the first 2 weeks.  Now I find I still get it if I overdo it. Maybe I do a little too much exercise or too much shopping.  I have to remember to be careful as it is still early.  But I don't need any pain meds any more for the pain.  It will go away soon.  And don't feel badly about complaining - we all do it!!!   This is a new life for all of us and we are learning all new ways.  I hope you feel better soon.

RNY on 12/18/08 with
Hi Ellen and all,
I am 10 days out from my RNY/lap I still have some pain once in awhile on the left side.  Mine seem more like a pulling inside.  The pain will subside and you will feel better soon. I started walking the day I came home and I think that helped.  First day to the house next door, then each day added a house or two then to the end of the block and today I walked 1 mile, 1/2 mile in the morning and 1/2 mile in the evening.  This helps with the gas also.
I do agree about the liquid diet though, it is getting boring.  Hang in there though, I am really trying.
Best of luck to you and everyone that reads this!

Ellen,

I had the RNY on 12/10 on the same day as you.  I stil have the pain on my left side.  I glad I read your post, because I just had my on pitty party and the same thoughts you had.  I thought I was doing something wrong that is delaying the healing process.  I am finding it hard to get the protein and water requirements....I am sure once I recover, I will be happy with the RNY.

I am SO GLAD I posted about my pain issue.  Thank you so much from everyone that responded.  I am starting to feel a bit better and the pain doesn't come quite as often.  I had a 3 week follow-up and got a less restricted diet, so I think that will help me feel a bit more normal.  I was on all soft foods, and no grains other than hot cereal.  The new diet is more normal so we will see how it goes.  Adding one food a day will take me a while.  But it's a new way of life and I'm just glad to have found this group and made it through my surgery.

Let's just keep chugging!

Thanks Guys!
