Anyone else having....
I had my bypass surgery on December 22 and got home the 24th early evening. Iam in pain...a lot of pain. I try to keep from taking too pany of the OxyCodine they gave me but I am having to. I have two drains in (a jackson pratt) and another small one. I know this is major surgery but I didn't expect to be in this much pain.
The back pain for me is there but I can tell its from the way I am sitting, laying and walking.
The gas is there for me and Gas X strips are my new bestfriends.
My tummy is so bloated and tender.
Is anyone else surprised at the pain? It was sharp pains for me but now it's like a burning. I get my drains out on tuesday so I am praying that helps with the pain...ugh!

I did speak with my aunt this evening who knows about this stuff due to her job. She said that the gases can take up to two weeks to dissipate and usually is at least 10 days. She said that the gases they use to pump you up during surgery have to be processed through the cells in your body so it takes longer. Some of it does make it into the gut, hence the rumbling, but most goes through cells.
I have to say that the gas that I did pass was accompanied by the oh so very lovely diarrhea. You know the kind you don't know is there. FOrtunately, I was warned by a friend who'd had the surgery and didn't pass any gas except over the toilet! lol
So.. I guess I'm PREGO feeling for the next week to 10 days. Fun times were had by all.
Let's all keep walking and eventually the gas will be gone.

Yes, what you are going thru is indeed very normal!!! I haven't weighed myself yet, but I feel like I've gained about 20 lbs due to bloating and swelling. Thankfully 95% of the gas is gone now but I'm still feeling sore around the left side of my ribs and can't sleep on that side.
Someone above said thank goodness her DH was at work when the ga**** My DH has been cheering me every time I fart (Yay cheryl!!!)
To the last person *****minded us about the staples inside, THANK YOU!!! I'm starting to feel better and already inclined to overdo it. So I will continue to take it easy and worry more about learning the definition of a sip.

Well I've made it to day 6 post RNY and there is a HUGE difference between how I feel today and how I felt yesterday. I managed to not take any pain meds all day yesterday until bedtime. I took a long walk, probably about 10 minutes, before going to bed because I just felt SO bloated and hadn't had much of anything to "eat". That helped enormously! I put my binding on to go to bed and while I woke up several times during the night with some discomfort, it wasn't really pain. I found I could turn over on the couch without excruciating knife stabbings (lol) or my organs falling out and this morning when I took the binding off I feel about 60% less bloated than I have the last few days. My stomach also doesn't feel nearly as hard today. YAY recovery/1 I'm nowhere near ready to run a marathon, let alone my household, but I definitely feel MUCH better. Hang in there everyone! WE're gonna make it!
