Anyone else having....

Okay, so the scale claims I've lost ten pounds this week since my RNY.  However, my stomach seems HUGE to me and so very bloated.  Does anyone else feel this too?  Is it simply a result of the swelling inside and stuff healing?  Honest to God I look like I'm about 8 months pregnant and I can't "suck it in" because it hurts to do so.

I also now have the LOUDEST gut rumblings I've ever heard.  It sounds like some alien being is about to be hatched from my stomach.  Is this normal and will it go away?  It's very embarassing!

I am also having back pain that I think is actually from overcompensating for the pain in my tummy when I move and/or walk.   But, I obviously can not lay on my stomach for a decent massage.  Any suggestions?

Okay.. that's it for me.  Just want to make sure I"m not alone!

OMG I thought those rumblings were so embarassing... and I could have sworn an alien was going to jump out of my stomach. Heheh!

But seriously, I am so bloated that it's insane. I can't wear most of the pants I own, Even my favorites are too tight. I am wondering how long the bloating will last... because you would think with losing 13 lbs my pants would fit better not worse.

Meet the Surgeon Aug 1, 2011 .... hopefully the surgeons office is right and everything will go fast and I'll have surgery later this month.

I had RNY on Monday.  My stomach is huge looking too.  I have been having all kinds of rumblings in my stomach and intestines as well as diarrhea since Wednesday.  I have not been having any back pain.  My understanding is that this is all normal.

I had my surgery on Monday the 22nd.  I too am having back pain.  It actually started in the hospital.  They told me it was from laying on the hard bed while being operated on.  I think it may have more to it than that because it is hurting more now that I am home.  It must have something to do with gas.  I have found that walking really does help with getting rid of some of that gas.  I still grow, rumble and (excuse me) belch to my horror.  It can be very embarrassing.
It is a wicked circle.  If I don't take my pain meds, I don't feel like doing much because of the stomach and back pain.  If I do take my pain meds, they make me sleepy and I don't feel like doing much.  I need to find something that doesn't have much sugar that I can take.  The hospital staff told me to take liquid s/f tylenol.  I cannot find s/f tylenol anywhere.  I see some are told to take 2 baby asprines.  Is that for the blood thinning properties or for pain?

I look at it this way.  Our bodies are trying to tell us something by being in so much pain.  That message, I believe, is DO NOTHING.  This is major surgery.  My doctor told me several stories of patients who overdid it within the first few weeks because they thought they were "feeling better".  Ended up back in the hospital with horrible pain.  He explained it that the stitches that are inside are made to irritate your muscles and cause pain to remind us that this is a big deal.  Withe laproscopic, especially, the incisions heal fairly quickly but the stuff inside is still doing so.  Remember we have organs now attached in places that God didn't put them. lol  That's going to take time.  So... my advice, take the pain meds and sleep.  Our bodies conduct most of their healing when we are sleeping so it's critical to get that sleep.  Don't worry about anything else.  The house, dishes, laundry, papers, bills, whatever.. will all still be there when we are truly recovered.  :-)

Wow.. was that a soapbox speech or what?? So sorry!!

As far as the S/F TYlenol.. I'd call around.  I'd think that it would have to be availalbe if for no other reason that diabetic patients.  I believe the aspirin is to thwart clotting for those who are taking it.  We were told specifically not to take anything additional for pain if we were taking the prescription meds.  If those were too strong, we were to wait until the dose wore off and take S/F Tylenol.  I've not gone about 14 hours with no pain meds.  I"m really sore and thinking I might need to take the lower end dose with a nap.  (After I try to make a banana/vanilla/something protein drink  lol)

Okay.. I"m done preaching now!  Have a great day everyone!

I am so sorry for the gas and bloating and pain. But, selfishly so - I am soo relieved to know I am not the only one with this awful back pain. I feel like a crane in a wrecking yard picked me up and squeezed and shook me and dropped me back down. The codeine in my loratab made me throw up, so I won't be taking that anymore. I am taking Tylenol Jr melt-away tabs 4=640mg, but its not helping with it. It has sucralose, but hasn't upset my stomach, plus I don't have to crush and swallow , so that is fine by me. Hope that helps with your problem better than mine.
