I am 1 week and 1 day out, 16 lbs down but yes, hungry ALL the time. I have been told it is because my internal incisions and nerve endings haven't healed yet. DAMN I hope they heal soon before I dig into the pile of fudge and peanut butter fudge sitting on the counter about 3 feet from me!!
Have you all discovered Jello SF pudding AND Cool Whip SF topping mixed together?? yummmmmmmm!

I just have to ask this.  How areyou people losing that much weight?  I mean, I came home from the hospital weighing 12 pounds more than my pre surgery weight!  It took me a week to lose that weight and since then I have lost an additional 5.  So in 12 days I have lost 20 but when I go into the surgeons office it will only read 8 pounds lost b/c of the weight I gained during surgery.

Am I just a freak of nature?  Why did i gain so much in the hospital?

Jemma, when I came home I had gained weight about 5lbs from the gas... I am sure that all the weight I am losing is because I can barely get anything in me. We went out to eat yesterday and i got a cup of soup... and ate about 4 little spoonfulls of it and was done. I swear the waiter thought I was nuts.

Only once was I able to eat a substantial amout of anything, 6oz of lite yogurt. I was so suprised.

But with the weight loss everyone loses differently. And I think 8 lbs is good, thats 8lbs you won't ever see again.

I'm in the same boat!  I had RNY on 12/17...and although I didn't gain any after the surgery, I've only lost 6 lbs!  It seems like everyone else is losing like 20-25 lbs the first couple of weeks out!  I thought it was supposed to be falling off like crazy!  The week before my surgery, I was on a liquid diet and lost 11 lbs -- then AFTER RNY, I only lose 6!  What's wrong with this picture??

I am 12 days PO and have lost 24 lbs. I walk everyday at the mall, I think that helps with the weight loss and gas, and the fact that I eat maybe 30 calories a day!
Congrats to all the December losers .

I went into the hospital at 255. I gained 8 during surgery taking me up to 263, I am now 239. So I have lost 24 including the 8 I gained.
I have no clue how much you need to lose but I have heard the more you need to lose the faster it comes off.
Are you getting in your liquids?
Don't worry, I am sure yours will just start dropping off fast and you will catch the rest of us.
Hang in there.

Most of the weight gained in a hospital is from IV fluid. I know I was getting a 1000cl every couple of hours, for 3 days straight that can add up to some lbs.

I was trying to get rid of it in the bathroom but It got tiring. phew.

I am doing a variety right now, Strained soup, pudding, blended soup and yougurt.
water and protein shakes.

I haven't weighed myself yet.  I'm really hoping not to become a slave to the scale and will let my inches and smaller clothing sizes.  I feel like I've gained this week too - very bloated and swollen, but I agree it's from the IV and gas.  I wouldn't worry at all about loss/gain during the first week or 2.

I also agree that the more exercise you do, the better it will be.

I had surgery on December 15th and have not been on a scale since I left the hospital and won't be on one until Jan 2nd when I go back to the doctor so I have no idea if I have lost any or not yet. I will keep you posted. I am glad to hear other post ops are hungry because I am dealing with this too. I know part of it is head hunger, but I KNOW that some of it is real hunger....I have no idea what to do with that yet....
