My Christmas Present

My surgery date is 12/26/08 which I consider to a Christmas present to myself.  As the date approaches I am nervous, excited and a little overwhelmed.

At this point given the negativity with most friends and family I made the decision not to tell them about it. Only my boyfriend and one other person know.   Have others experienced resistance/negativity from their friends and/or family?

I am lucky that I work for a college so we're closed for about 2 weeks and I didn't have to take any vacation time off at this point.

For those who have just had their surgery... how are you feeling? How did you feel when you were prepped for surgery?

Hello,
I can relate to the negativity. I haven't told many people because frankly, I don't need their toxicity in my life just before something I am doing to improve my health. Rather than pick a fight and defend myself and my decision, I've chosen select friends and family to tell. The rest will just have to be surprised when they see me again!

I originally had your date, but my surgeon bumped me out to 12/30. I think all of the emotions you are experiencing are normal, but I wish a great calm for you on the day of surgery, a successful surgical experience, and an effortless recovery.

That is a perfect date for surgery.

that happens to be my brithday. So I know you will do extra fine.

Sorry to hear everybody is being  negative about ur surgery. That should be left at the door. You realy don't need that right now.

Not sure what you mean about being prepped for the surgery. I made a lot to do about nothing.

I was nervous as soon as I hit the door of the hospital. Once I talked to my dr. I had a calmness come over me and felt at ease about the surgery.

Good Luck and best wishes for a uneventful surgery and a speedy recovery.

I just had my surgery Friday, I was was eerily calm and even acting silly while I was getting prepped. It was strange because the day before I was an emotional wreck... Now I am so glad I did it. As for how I am feeling, I'm doing allright. My pain isn't that bad, unless I just stand up and start walking (once I get up andmoving it gets better). Although I am still takingpain meds through out the day, about every 7 hours.

I thankfully didn't encounter any negativity, my family  at least the ones I talk to and know I had the surgery, really encouraged me to follow through.

Good luck on Friday... I hope everything goes well for you! And if you need to talk feel free to add me and send a message.

Meet the Surgeon Aug 1, 2011 .... hopefully the surgeons office is right and everything will go fast and I'll have surgery later this month.

Hi Katie:

Glad you're recovering well.... that's wonderful.

Thank you for the well wishing... I need it! My boyfriend is taking me and waiting to make sure all is okay, he also says everything will be fine, but I've never had any kind of surgery before so it makes me nervous.

I may take you up on messaging you later in the week.

Rest up and best wishes for a great recovery!
