Okay so I came home yesterday...

My surgery was on 12/17, it was supposed to be at 11am, but they were running behind, and I didn't go bac****il 2pm... They didn't call my hubby and let him know I was in recovery until 5 pm, so when I go in next week, I'm going to ask what the delay was about... I woke up in recovery, I think about 6? And they kept me in there until 9pm when they finally moved me to my room. I was so anxious to see my hubby...but they wouldn't let me see him till I got to my room... But there was a very attentive nurse who sat on a stool between me and another patient the whole time, and all she did was attend to us.

I don't feel like I have any sensitivity to sweets, at least not yet, because I can tolerate my sugar free kool aid just fine without diluting it... But I know the surgery had to have worked because for breakfast and lunch the next day, I couldn't eat anything more than three tiny cubes of jello and I was full.

I'm still in pain, and yall, the morphine pump in the hospital did nothing for me... Don't know if yall realize, but u have to press the pump button every ten minutes...each dose is supposed to last ten minutes... I never felt any relief, and I also questioned them, "So if I'm sleeping and I don't press the pump, I'm going to wake up in a whole hell of a lot of pain???" Yep... Sucks!!!

But as everyone says, stay hydrated and walk... I'm still in pain (they sent me home yesterday) but the liquid lortab they gave me actually helps... Set a timer and take it every four hours, not later, don't let it wear off! And don't freak out about the taste, you can handle it...it actually just tastes like nasty cough syrup... Just have some apple juice or something of the sort to chase it with.

I'm trying to think of what else to tell yall...oh...the JP drain sucks! I hate this thing! And when u have to pinch the tubing and get the liquid down into the drain to empty it, it hurts!!! So definitely have your meds!!!

Other than that, I can't think of a whole lot else....Please write back or pm me if you guys have any questions!!!

Congratulations on your surgery.  I had mine the 15th and came home Wednesday night.  I agree the JP drain is horrible.  It doesn't hurt me, but the sight of it makes me sick so I try not to look at it.  I've just been on liquids since the surgery although today I ate 1 tsp of baby food chicken and 2 T jello.  But I won't do that again.  I am too scared to strectch my pouch.  I hope I haven't already done the damage.

Good luck to you.

Congratulations on being home!  I also came home today but had surgery Monday, and literally right now I just sat down from changing the pad over my JP drain hole...so gross.  However, one oxycodone and MANY tears later, things are nice and warm. :)

I agree; DON'T let your meds wear off!  I also think, for those of us at home, that you need to judge your big movements (getting out of bed/chairs, showering, etc) based on when you last had meds.  When I've taken some and need to get up/down, it's fine.  However, all those tears were caused when I'd gotten up too fast from the sofa after lying down for a few hours...and 7 hours since my last dose of meds.  Bad idea.

It's good to see you're tolerating foods well!  Good luck and take things slowly.  It'll help you in the end!

Glad to see your home and SAFE!  I have one question for you, about how much are you able to drink at one time....I'm worried about that and not getting enough...

They say no more than one ounce in your mouth at a time...and no straws. They are scared you are going to gulp it down and get yourself sick. In the hospital they poured my water into these little medicine cups, and the whole cup equaled one oz. I was taking four sips to drink one cup of it to start off with.

But now at home, I'm taking regular sips, just being careful not to gulp and I'm doing great. So don't worry about it!!! You will do fine!

Oh and fyi...when taking the 4 tbsp (2 at a time) of lortab, I do gulp that down quick...and it hasn't hurt me so far.... LOL...

Hope this helps!

Congratulations.  I came home yesterday too.  They took my drain out in the hospital so I am fortunate for that.  Is anyone having problems withe liquids and getting enough in.  They tried to keep me in the hospital becasue I wasn't taking in enough and it took me a day to sip down a pint.  I am just a little worried about having to go back when being home feels so good.

You will do great Kim!

As for the liquids...I drank 32 oz the first 24 hrs I believe, after surgery...its a lot of work though bc I was drinking my liquids out of those little medicine cups. LOL. It will take u some time to get used to it!
