my mother is freaking me out.
ok, my mom keeps telling me to change my date of surgery to after the 22nd.she keeps saying know one will be available to help you. I asked the dr office over and over they inssured me they would be there to take care of me. i cannot imagine I am the only one out there who is or has had this surgery before a holiday and ended up ok. I pray to God all goes well everyday because I am nervous but not because of the day. Anyone else have the same issue?
I'm having my surgery on the 22nd as well. I already know my doctor will be on call at the hospital over Christmas. Hospitals are open 24/7. They don't stop taking care of people just because it's Christmas or New Years or any other holiday.
I'm not getting any negative input from anyone in my family or from my co-workers.
Good Luck!

Actually, my surgery is also for the 22nd and I have had some reservations for the same reason your mom stated. I know that the hospital staff is almost on a skeleton crew during that time. But I also know from working in hospitals, practically no one schedules surgery for during the holidays. After careful consideration, I am not really worried. I am keeping my appt and if you feel safe with your dr and the hospital, go for it.
My understanding is that surgeries, especially bariatric, are quite common around Christmas time. This is because of insurances, co-pays, and some people have down-time around Christmas (like school district employees).
However, someone having surgery on Monday could be home by Christmas.
Wishing all of us a good Monday!
