10 days and scared to death!

So... can I borrow your positive outlook for the rest of my life?? lol  It's funny to me that I am always the positive one with my students... looking for the bright side in their lives and helping them to see it.  (I teach in an urban school with high poverty)  Yet, when it comes to my own life, I'm not so good at it!

I'm going to look at things the way you've suggested.  I know that in the grand scheme of things recovery is nothing!  But, I guess I'm still scared.  Kinda silly, huh?

Keep those positive vibes coming and I'll send some your way for your upcoming life-change as well!

sure you can borrow any good karma, vibes, well wishes.

We all have plenty to go around.

And no it is not silly.  it is perfectly normal if you ask me.

I know if I didn't talk about it, share stories  or learn what to do w/ other people. I would not be doing this.
The more I share or learn  about it the more I know I am doing the right thing.

I 100% know that I am doing the right thing.  I've been on this journey, officially, for 2 years.  Unofficially, research, etc., for more than 5 years.  I now personally know about 13 people who have had the surgery.  Only one of whom says she hates her body more now than she did before the surgery.  She has also had ongoing complications (though I think some of that may be caused by her inability to quit smoking!)   The first thing that spurred me to get serious about this was getting put on Cholesterol and Triglyceride medicine two years ago.  (I've been on meds for GERD for nearly 6 years)  Then came the diagnosis of sleep apnea and the oh-so-becoming nightly CPAP mask.  The final line, being put on blood pressure medication at the age of 39 this past fall.  It'd be one thing if it ran in my family... but it doesn't.  So, here I am.

I know that I'm going to do great.  I've been meeting with the nutritionist for the surgery center for 7 months now.  I've learned all about the eating habits that need to develop, what to expect, etc.  Honestly, I think I said it before, I a most scared of nausea.  I absolutely can't stand to be nauseous.  (I think I finally remembered the spelling  lol)

So, like you, I'm talking to lots of folks.  Looking to find and offer support.  I think I've found that here.  You all seem like a really amazing bunch!  I'm glad I stumbled upon the site and that ms_jj posted a response to me!

This sounds so familar. hmm where have I seen this before.

oh yeah That is me.  I am in the same boat as you, only I was going to be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes real soon if i didn't have this done.

The doctor who did my sleep study said I was the only patient he ever had that was excited about getting the CPAP!  For me, the lack of sleep for six years was enough to make me willing to try anything!  My husband nicknamed me "Scuba Steve" when I'm wearing it.  Funny guy, eh?

About six months ago, I started waking up repeatedly even with the CPAP.  I figure I probably need it adjusted but really didn't want to go through the whole sleep study again.  That just sucked!  Big time!

I don't think I"m any where near to being diabetic but I know so many who are.  I'm glad to know that you're moving in a direction to help correct ALL of those issues very soon!  I'm looking forward to congratulating you on your surgery and welcoming you back to the forum after your hospital stay!  I'm also sending only good vibes your way!!

Hello and welcome to OH! I am having a rny on Monday. I have been researching this surgery for years and I have been tempted to back out a time or two. But I haven't and now I am not nervous, just anxious. This has been a long journey and I really don't have a lot of support from my DH, he is scared and I know that. My support, most of it, comes from this site. Everyone will help you thru anything and everything that you come up against . I love my OH friends! Like JJ said, there are no dumb questions! Good luck with your surgery and pm me anytime!
hugs,
Brenda

 Julie,
I am doing better, thank you for asking. I still tire easily .My surgery went well, the doctors and nurses were very impressed with how good I did.
Did your surgeon give you a spirometer for breathing exercises? If he did use it, everyday and anytime you think about it. It strengthens your lungs and prevents pneumonia.
Remember to walk a lot after surgery and sip, sip, sip!!! Pm me anytime!!! Good luck with your surgery, I will be saying a prayer for you!
 hugs ,
Brenda
