Dec 8th RNY - Checking in - I am home!
Hi Everyone,
Well I did not chicken out (although I wanted to like a million times). I had my surgery Monday the 8th at 7:30 am in Princeton NJ. Doc said all went really well. I got up and walking the same day, had those inflatable cufffs on my legs to prevent clots, and was able to take liquids once my Upper GI/Leak Test came back ok, Which I am THRILLED to say it did.
So I left the hospital around noon today, liquid vicodin script in hand. Make sure you take your own pillow to the hospital as it makes you more comfortable and is great to pad you stomach on the ride home from bumps and the seatbelt.
So overall I would have to say I am doing great. I get my staples out on the 17th (Friday) and no driving until then. Ugh! So I am on a strict liquid diet for the next few days, then will be starting my food log and adding one thing at a time.
I just wanted to check-in and let everyone know I made it, and am in pretty good shape. Gonna go lie down for a while (probably until morning, can't sleep more than 2 hours at a time b/c of all the Blood sugar testing, blood pressure, oxygen etc.
The last think to come out was my drainage tube, and boy did I holler when they did that. It felt really wierd and somewhat painful, but I made it.
So I guess I'm on the other side. Thank to everyone for all your prayers, I know they helped. I am sending my prayers your way for the upcoming surgeries & continues recovery. I hope mine continues to go smooth.
Only bummer is that I weighed myself tonight and I am 9.5 lbs heavier than b4 sugery. So I will have to keep a watch on that to make sure I am not retaining water. I can't wait to see the numberst start to drop.
BTW, I was running a low-grade fever in the hospital, they said it was likely b/c I needed to get up and walk more. It was mostly gone by today. And don't forget to hold your pillow against your abdomen when you cough!
Love to all!
Ellen

Congrats Ellen!
I also had my rny on the 8th. Thankfully I had a very easy time during my hospital stay and have want to keep pinching myself to make sure that this is not a dream. I can not believe that it is already over. lol. I promised myself that I would not get on the scales until my 2 week post op visit and I can't wait!
Take care and remember to get in all of you fluids.

Hi! Thanks for posting! I am going in on the 16th. I don't think I'm nervous but the surgery is all I can think about. I like to know what is going to happen and you sure helped with that. Thanks!
I've had 3 c-sections so I know what to expect somewhat from surgery. I've heard from some its worse then a c-section and from others that its not nearly as bad!
Anyway, I appreciated your post!
Continue to do well!
Hugs

Ellen we had surgery on the same day and I am so happy you are doing well. I am having these shooting pains. Could this be gas and if so did they prescribe anything for you to take? I have the loritab just don't want to take too much and get constipated. I am being very active so I don't know why this is going on.
Thanks
Kim
