Dry Heaves
I'm 5 days post op and last night I had the dry heaves for about 3 hours. It was so bad I went down on my knees a few times. Yes, I admit it...I didn't follow the recommended diet. I put crackers in my turkey soup...lots of them.
My fiance went out to buy coke and pineapple juice in the middle of the night after I got online and researched how to make it stop. I guzzled a half bottle of coke and laid down (again) and fell asleep. I NEVER DID vomit anything the whole time...just saliva.
I leaned my lesson and will NEVER go off the recommended diet again. But I was wondering if anybody else ever did this, and was there any damage caused to the band? I don't know if I should call my surgeon now or just wait until my post op check up.
Thank you for the support.

Hi Tipsy...
EEEEEEKKKKKKSSSSSS! Dry heaves are a booger! Bless your heart. I do know that being only 5 days post-op you're still REALLY healing from the surgery itself and to stick with the recommended diet is sooooo important. I didn't have lap surgery I had bypass RNY but the healing is still about the same from the surgery itself. I know how hard it is to make it through the various stages of progression that lead back to eating normal food again but hang in there!
My nurse educator put it in terms that made me feel a whole lot better about the weeks of special diet..
She said, "when you think of this post-op diet progression, 6-8 weeks isn't all that long in the long-term scheme of things. Think of how quickly a year passes...and how little 6-8 weeks truly is."
That made me feel sooooo much better...and she was right! It was no time at all and I was past those stages and then before I knew it I was a year out from surgery!
Hang in there and take care of your body--in turn it will take care of you too :)
Many blessings!
Brenda
Hi Brenda,
Thank you for the reply. You are right...6-8 weeks is a blink in the whole scheme of things. That gives me the strength to quit my little pity party here and gives me some light at the end of the tunnel! LOL
I just hope I didn't mess up the placement or anything. It was scary. I'm attending a support Lap Band group meeting on Monday so I'm going to see what they think about the possible damaging effects.
Thanks for the reply and God Bless!
