got a date of 1-7-09 at Albany Medical Center Dr. Singh
Well its official I have a date of Jan 7th, I am still waiting for ins. approval, but I am praying everyday. I was just wondering if anyone knew what the pre-op diet before surgery was like for Albany Med. I am meeting with the nutritionist again soon, but she doesn't even know that I have my date. By some major fluke I was supposed to meet with the PA at the surgeons office, but she called in that day and the other PA was out also, so I ended up Meeting the big guy himself Dr. Singh and to my surprise...we went thru my chart and he said congrats you have met all of your requirements, except your educational seminar but that is scheduled for Dec. 18th, so let go into my office and set up a date. I am still in shock, I am very happy and just pray that all will work out. Does anyone have any words of wisdom for this waiting period? I am getting nervous that it won't happen or that something will hold it up. My insurance is changing the end of January and the new company will not cover the surgery, but will cover my follow ups. I look to everyone at OH, because you are all my inspirations and the only real support system that I have right now.
Cindie,
I am still 13 days pre op. I had the same worries. Our insurance changes Jan 1st And I was stressing. But then I sat back and said if it is meant to be then it will be. It is out of my hands, that I have done what I needed to do and the rest is up to someone else. 4 days later I had insurance approval.
Wishing you the best of luck. I am sure that if you have done everything you needed to do then everything will be fine.....
Take care

I just had my surgery this past Monday, Dec. 1st. Albany Med didn't send in for the insurance approval for me until I had my surgery date. So that left about a month for approval.
I was denied at first because when I lost my 10% it dropped my BMI below 40, so I no longer qualified. However, Dr. Singh wrote a letter explaining the situation and they approved it. I never had to change my surgery date...they ru**** when your surgery is already scheduled. What insurance do you have if you don't mind me asking?
The nutritionist will put a lot of emphasis on protein, small bites, and lots of fluids. Trust me...after your surgery DO NOT DEVIATE from the diet or you will have hell to pay!! I got sick as a dog because I thought I could handle more than what was allowed in the first week post op.
The education session is long...make sure you eat right before you go or you'll be ravenous by the time its over.
It sounds like you have all your ducks in a row. I wish you lots of luck. I shared a hospital room with a bypass patient and she was afraid of her food! LOL I thought that was funny...I downed my dinner (jello, broth, etc.) and offered to finish hers!
