I had my surgery yesterday (open RNY) at 7:00 a.m.  I am on a morphine drip, so excuse any wierdness, etc.

I woke up in a lot more pain than I anticipated.  I am not a big fan of morphine -- it is great for pain, but I hate the goofiness.

Nasuea too.  And I can't sleep.  My daughter is asleep on the couch in my room.  She's being an absolute doll about this.

This is all I can do now...

Congratulations.  How are you doing otherwise?

I hated the morphine, too.

It made me nauseous and sleepy when I wanted to walk around and walk off the gas.

I wish I could walk off the gas.  LOL.  That is one uncomfortable thing I am dealing with.

Well I have advanced to water!  Still just sipping.  I will be sipping the rest of my life I think!  Morphine is making me itch now, so I wll be getting some benadryl which will allow me to finally sleep.  Pain is still intense -- more than  expected.

Wow, I am 19 days pre op.  I hate that it is going to happen so close to Christmas but I am so excited it is going to happen.  Just keep your thoughts on the prize (being thinner) and maybe the first few days/weeks won't be so bad.  Congratulations!

Well, it's been two days and they started me on apple juice today.  I have watered it down -- it just feels too strong for me right now. They said I will be able to have some watered down carnation breakfast soon.

For me getting thinner is more of a side effect.  I am doing this mainly to cure my diabetes.  I am really tired of needles, plus I have seen first hand through my mother how horribly sick you can get from diabetes.   It is not how I want to spend my golden years -- if I even would make it to my golden years.  I do not want to lose feet, eyesight, have heart failure -- all those icky things you get from diabetes.  It will be nice to buy better fitting clothes and all that too.  But it will be nicer not to have to deal with the side effects of diabetes!

Overall, I am feeling better than yesterday.  Most everything I feel right now is mainly muscle pain.  I feel like I have been hit by a truck.  I had an "open" R&Y, and they did cut open a lot of muscle.  I am also having trouble keeping my oxygen up.  I do better when I sit in a chair.  The morphine makes me goofy, but it keeps me out of pain.

I am doing much better.  :-)  At first I felt so miserable I wondered if I had made a big mistake.  I don't think so anymore.
