I would suggest the diet my dr gave me. Slim fast high protein shakes and bars and one sensible meal a day at 1200 calories per day.

My apologies, let me make this plain. The diet is:

1200 Calorie Liquid Diet

Use Slim Fast High Protein drink or meal bars. Need to eat 3 meals and snacks everyday. Can have shakes/ bars for any meal or snack when I am hungry. Once per day I am allowed to have an actual meal with certian guidelines.

I need to lose 5% of my starting wieght by surgery.

Choosing 5 Slim Fast High Protein shakes or meal bars per day. Always have a shake or bar for brakfast when you wake up. Don't skip meals

You are allowed one meal per day of meat and veggies, no starches. Be sure to weight or measure all foods. Choose 5oz of lean meat, baked broiled or grilled. Do not eat fried meats.

See I think I could really do that plan.  But for some reason my Nut says no slimfast or adtkins shakes or bars.  they are really strict. I wonder why the heck these pre op diets vary so darn much.

I understand completely. My Dr. has received all kinds of awards and is the Director of the Bariatric Ward of a very prestigious hospital here in Dallas County. In additon, he has been named in D Magazine as one of the top Drs in Dallas. I trust his judgement and this has been a very easy process for me. I am not saying to go against yoru dr's wihses but for me it was important that I had somehting that would not allow me to fail before the surgery as well. His plan really works and I am full because of the High protein and fiber.

You do want to stick to the diet your doctor wants you to follow.  It is to make surgery and recovery time faster and easier on the doctor and yourself.  It seems like there is a lot of variation, but follow your doctor.  That's what you are paying him/her the big bucks for.

If the protein drinks don't taste good, try another product.
