It will be great to keep in contact with you through this. It makes me feel better knowing someone is going through it with me.

Same here.  I just found out on Friday that I was approved and got my date.  I am so excited, but now getting a little nervous.  What surgery are you having?

Yes I am having RNY also.  I originally was thinking about the lap band, but after talking to the surgeon I changed my mind.  I don't think I would do that well with lap band.  I want to loose the weight to get off all the darn meds I am on.  I am a diabetic and the sooner I can loose the weight, the sooner I can get off some of  the meds.  I really hate the insulin injections.  It was when they started me on insulin, I decided to have the surgery.  I really need to get healthy, being thin is a fringe benefit.  lol.  I also have high blood pressure, high cholesterol and sleep apnea.  I have 4 kids that need me.  My kids are 22, 17, 15 and 4.  I am so tired of being tired all the time.  I have no energy at all.  My knees hurt all the time etc.  I was really hoping to have the surgery sooner, but my insurance required a 6 month doctor supervised diet.  I turn 40 in January and was really hoping to be much thinner by then.  How long did it take you to get approved?

I thought about the lap band also, but I found out that most people only lose around 37% of their excess weight from it and also my insurance wouldn't cover the visits for the adjustments... That was a little strange...LOL   I am on alot of Meds too, I'll be glad to get rid of them, although we will be taking ALOT of vitamins...LOL
I have two kids, 15 and 14 and I would like to be able to do things with them, as of now I get winded so easliy and so tired I don't feel like doing anything. My insurance required the same thing but I had researched it about a year ago and started on it before I ever went to the seminar.
Well as far as approval, I went to my first seminar on June 17 of this year, they turned it in to my insurance company on September 26 and they approved it on October 8, so from my first seminar it took me a little less than 3 months. But as for just the insurance company it took them 13 days (including the weekends).
I just turned 35 a few days ago so I'm not far behind you, and happy early birthday!

Happy belated Birthday!!  At least you are closer to 30 than 40 lol!    I never attended any of the seminars.  The doctor I have has them in the evenings at the hospital where I work.  I would have to punch out and sit around for about 3 hours to go to one.  I just made an appointment, which was on May 9th.  I had all my testing done by June, but they wouldn't budge on the six month thing.  The office submitted the rest of my paperwork on Tuesday of last week and had an approval by Friday.  The woman at the insurance company who handles this stuff was great.  She had gotten the paperwork on Thursday, She called me that evening to tell me should would make sure I got a decision ASAP.  She was true to her word.  I heard the next day!!  I am so glad that I didn't have to go through the appeals thing.  I have my preop appt on November 12th.  I have to do a 2 week liquid diet, so that means I will be having liquids for Thanksgiving lol.  Its worth it.  I can't wait to have this done.  I ordered the book, WLS for dummies last week, I should be getting it tomorrow.  Have you read that?  I saw a post that mentioned it, so I thought what the heck might as well read it.  It can't hurt.   Its funny I thought I was so prepared and educated about the surgery, but now that I have a date I feel like there is so much I don't know.  I am sure its just being nervous.  I am having my surgery in the hospital where I work, so that will be a little weird.  I don't care who knows, everyone who knows me knows I am fat lol.  No big secret there.   I see you live in Indiana, where at about?

WOW!  You have to do a 2 week liquid diet???? The only thing that they told me was after my last appointment with them on Nov. 19 is that I need to be on liquids Dec 1st and then not eat or drink anything after midnight. I didn't have to go through the appeals process either, I was actually expecting it though...LOL    I thought I was prepared for it too and the closer it gets the more questions I seem to have about it. I have had several surgeries before so I know what to expect with that, I'm just not sure about AFTER the surgery with this one...LOL
I have heard of the book, but there isn't anywhere around here that would even carry that....LOL
I live in Tell City, It's a REALLY small town...LOL I don't know why I ever moved back here. I was living out in Las Vegas for several years but the cost of living there is just WAY too high, so here I am....LOL
