Hey Michelle,

Yes, my daughter is fine, she just sideswiped a car (a new one) while trying to park my car at the shopping center. She has her permit and I try to let her drive as much as my nerves can handle....LOL I haven't had a cigarette in about 3 days now and yesterday was really a challenge with the wreck, but I'm hangin' in there.

Talk you ya soon

Hi everyone!

I am feeling much better today. Candy, I feel your pain about the smoking thing. I am only on day 4!  I quit many years ago, but started up again like a fool.  I hope your daugher and her car are ok!  Those darn kids are expensive habits are they?  LOL.

Hey Michelle!

I'm glad you are feeling better, I am also. Execpt for my car...lol   She really didn't do much damage to it, so I should be greatful. She has her permit and there are just some things that she doesn't remember well.. Like parking in a space that is angled the other way...lol I think she forgot that my car went out a little further than she could actually see, but all it did was just crack a piece of plastic off my bumper. The other car you really couldn't even tell so things are ok. I think that it scared her more than me but MAN did I want a cigarette then! LOL But I didn't get any and haven't had any for 3 days now. They are VERY expensive (kids)...lol  And her birthday is in 3 days so the expenses just keep on comin'.... She'll be 16 and my other daughter is 14, my nephew also lives with me and he is 16, so most of the time I feel like I'm constantly nerved up...lol  Well I'm sure that things will get better and I just keep hangin' on.

Talk to ya soon!

Good morning Candy and all!

I am glad to hear you are feeling better also.  Shame about the car. My daughter is 17 and scares the crap out of me when she drives my small suv.  She is much better in the car, but still scares me lol.  The first and only time  I let her drive me to walgreens, I thought she was going to drive right through wall while trying to park!  Its funny now, but she scared me pretty good and it takes a lot to scare me.  When my oldest went to get his license he was 18, my husband insisted on taking this big old cargo van he had.  Well, it didn't pass the inspection they do at the DMV and couldn't take the test, my son was very dissappointed.  Well my husband let him drive home, when he was backing out of the parking lot, he backed into a car!  To make matters worse the car belonged to a DMV employee!  Sounds like a bad SNL skit!  I promised my daughter I will take her for her license before I have surgery.  I did take her once and she failed because she couldn't back around the corner without going up on the curb.  I wonder how often do we have to do that?  I also want to know where its leagal to do that?  I guess she went up on the lawn lol. That is just not something you can go out and practice, at least not where I live.  At least after this child it will be at least 3 years before the next son, he is 15 and my youngest is only 4 !

Hello everybody: Boy I thought I had it bad just giving up coffee. I  should not laugh at you because my kids will be there in a few years. My son Ryan 14 has autism and probably will never be a driver but my daughter Nicole is 12 will probably start bugging me in a couple of years. She is Bi-polar  and there is no way she will get behind the wheel until she is fully under control.
I started leaning toward the lap-band but as I learn more I decided to go with the proximal RNY. I just need more of the negative reinforcement it offers. Lap-band has just too many ways I could make it fail.
Friday I was "laid off" at my job but they offered to transfer me to another group within the company. Trouble is this transfer changes my 40 mile round trip commute to one of 100% travel with the high possibility of out of state several weeks assignments. My wife works 6pm to 7am 3x a week. We can't leave the kids alone yet.  The new boss (not clear who I will report to) does not know that I'm having surgery or will have 6 weeks of weight limited work. They want me to hang around with my old boss for a week or 2 doing admin work so I'm not gone yet.
Well goto go, everybody  try to have a good Monday.

Hi everyone, hope all are doing well.  Ok, I need some help!!! I just came back from my first support group meeting.. The coordinator said I should attend eventhough I have not had surgery so I went.  Very nice group, very nice people willing to share, BUT now I am confused.

The majority of people I met had the lap band and 2 had the bypass.  one of the girls I spoke to was a nurse and said she was scheduled for bypass and later changed her mind because "SHE" felt it was safer, less messing around with her plumbing etc... Now I heard both sides and want some feedback..

what do you guys think?  the lap band is not permanent, its reversable but the thing I am not too keen on is you have to go for adjustments and you don't lose weight as quickly..

I appreciate your feedback.

thanks and good night

Hey Yoly,

I had the same thoughts in the beginning, one of the main reasons I went for the bypass is because there were A LOT of people at the seminar who had the band and it really hadn't worked all that well for them and they were coming back in for the bypass. I also found out that my insurance didn't cover the cost of going in several times for adjustments and that I would have to pay around 200 every time that I went in for one. The hospital I would have to go to for them is also a two hour drive from my house. From what my surgeon told me the risks are about the same for either operation. I also read that people don't lose as much with the band as they do with the bypass and I have a lot to lose. So i figured that I would just go ahead and go for the bypass and be done with it. I would rather have surgery once and not have to worry about the chance of going back in for another one. But this is just my opinion on it, I'm sure there are a lot of people that it worked for, it just wasn't something that I thought would work for me. Well I hope that you feel a little better about things, I know that the time is ticking down....lol

Have a good night.

Yoly:
The only "right" decision is the one you make based on the facts you gather regarding each surgery. And your goals and needs are part of that fact finding. How much weight do want or need to lose? How much control do you need from your surgery?
You can easily find forums that show the long-term success rates and also forums that talk about revisions and why they did change.
She is correct that it is "safer" to do the Lap-band as far as a procedure goes. But EVERY procedure has it's surgical and post surgical possible complications. Lap-band has its share of post-op complications.
My choice was based on all the above including my need to have the surgical "tool" have more control than I have historically have been able to give during attempted weight loss.
Bottom line is it's your body and surgery is just a tool to help you. Make an informed decision and it it will be the correct one for YOU!
