Hi, Jeannie - From what I've heard there is no "normal" weight to have lost and that everyone is different... As you know, I had surgery last Thursday and I don't feel like I've lost anything yet! In fact as of yesterday morning, I still wasn't back to my day of surgery weight!! That was very frustrating!! I was not at all prepared for the weight gain in the hospital... From my weigh in on the morning of surgery until an aide had me get on a scale late that evening, I gained 10 pounds!!! Like I said, as of yesterday morning, I still hadn't lost all 10 of those pounds! I decided then and there that I wouldn't get on a scale again until this Friday when I go to the surgeon for my 1 week check... I've heard so many say they've lost 20 pounds in the first week or whatever and I just know that won't be me... I'm trying not to focus on that, but it is discouraging! How are you doing otherwise? Take care... Nancy

Hi, Tinamarie - I also had surgery on the 6th and had lap gastric bypass so I'm right there with you!!! I'm so sorry that you are feeling down, but have heard that it's a normal reaction to something like we've gone through. My surgery went well and I was home on Friday, but I had a very bad day on Saturday and wondered what I'd done to myself! Finally figured out that I was having nausea problems and once I got meds in for that and started feeling better, my mood improved, too. I am feeling better every day... We all need good support people to get through this This is a life changing surgery we've gone through... Please feel free to add me as a friend and send me a personal message - I'd be happy to share with you and we can help each other get through the rough times! I don't have AIM, but can share with you my personal email if you'd rather correspond that way!! Take care and know that others are here and care about you! Nancy

Hi, Becky & Tinamarie - I had surgery on Dec. 6th, too, (lap RNY gastric bypass) and understand what you are going through. Fortunately, I don't "feel" hungry, but I'm sure having a lot of dreams where I'm eating!! Then I wake up worried that I've done something horrible!! I also find myself thinking a lot about food - even watching a lot of the Food Network - which I've never watched much before!! (What's up with that?!?!) I've had a bit of trouble getting all the water in, but have found that raspberry lemonade Crystal Light has helped. I tried the regular lemonade one, but it was a bit too much for me. I also have liked the SF popsicles and jello. I can't eat anything for 4 weeks post op! I see the surgeon this Friday and should be able to add back in the protein shakes at that time, but other than that, he has us follow a clear liquid diet for 4 weeks post op... I wish you both lots of good health in your recovery and that the healing will go quickly. Please feel free to keep in touch with me as I really agree that the support and friendships here (and wherever you can find them) are lifesavers!!! Nancy P.S. Becky - I'll check out the PM you sent me and respond there, too! Glad you're doing OK!

Hi, Janis - My surgery went very well... Fortunately, I was the first surgery of the day so after checking in at 5:30 a.m. last Thursday, I was whisked away and didn't have too much time to think about anything until I was back in my room that afternoon! I was told I went to recovery about 10:20 a.m., but I'm not sure what time I was in my room. The first I really remember was about 2:30 that afternoon... I was discharged about noon on Friday and felt really pretty good. I don't want to scare you, but I did have a rough day on Saturday - I think it mainly was because the hospital meds finally all wore off... So my suggestion to you is to be sure to listen very closely to your body and take your meds. I had some nausea, but once I got the anti-nausea drug in, I did much better! Every day is getting better and better!! I see the surgeon again this Friday and anticipate being released to work then and will be back to work next Monday... I hope your nerves have settled down a bit - I was definitely nervous, too...even up to the morning of surgery - I think that's a normal emotion... Just remember all the reasons you chose to have WLS and focus on the goal of being healthier and thinner! My thoughts and prayers will be with you on Friday!! I'll look forward to hearing how your big day goes, too!! Nancy

I completely understand your struggles. I went over my calories on Sat. and rather then feel guilty the entire time I enjoyed it and then felt guilty. We will have to keep in touch as well.

Sorry, I haven't gotten back to you sooner. It's been crazy at my house! I think keeping in tough would be a great idea. I look forward to hearing how things are going for you. I opted to do the Medifast drinks and a small meal per day for my pre-op diet. My calories should be around 800 per day. I cut out caffine completely which has probably been the worst for me. I had a rough three days without it but am feeling much better now. I also found that I do better with a small meal at around 3 (if I can) rather then waiting until the evening. Anyway, I hope to hear from you soon!

Topic: RE: Question for you all!?!?!?
Hi Angela, My RNY is scheduled for 12/27 but I did my pre-op tests today...including a blood test for nicotine. I haven't smoked since 2/04 so it's not an issue now but it does indicate that smoking IS an issue and the surgeon doesn't want to take chances. Probably a great time to address all addictive behaviors while making life changes for the better and getting healthy on many levels... Wish your friend the best of luck in building a new, healthier life!
