Topic: RE: Surgery on Sat. 12/22 and I cheated already on my 2 week Pre-Op diet
I cheated, and was busted when I went for my pre-op appt because I didn't loose dramatic weight, lost only like 5lbs. I also had a smooth surgery and one of the "easier" ones of the days according to my surgeon. I was scared that I was adding a complication too but fortunately it didn't. I was banded on 12/18, YEAH!!!! I hope you did well today and will tell us how you're feeling ;)

I did all of my preop testing on Dec 13 (cbc, ekg, chest xray, nutritionist, respiratory, etc). As far as surgery prep I (thankfully) did not have the 5 day liquid diet. I was told that I can eat a little Christmas dinner if we do it early (so we are having it at 1) and then around 4 I have to take a laxative (Fleet soda ... blah) and then beginning at midnight I am on clear liquids all day the 26th. Nothing after midnight the 27th. Very small price to pay for me!

My only thing is the 5 day liquid diet. On the 26th, I'm doing pre-op, where the surgeon will do an EGD (?) to check my gallbladder. If that's no good, he's going to remove it at the time of my surgery. I'll have a chest x-ray, EKG, and labs, too...all standard stuff, I imagine. I'm already cranky...

I'm also the 27th! And having the roller coaster emotions. I am trying to get everything together now so that I'm not trying to think about it when I am cranky from the preop prep lol Just out of curiosity ... what are your requirements for preop? just curious to see how much things vary doctor to doctor.

hmmm, that is a good question. I have not heard of loss of smell, but change in taste. this is interesting, and curiousity will make me go out and do research.

No problem....I know that even with all the research and reading I have done, I don't have all the answers. But, I am glad I can help. Also, just remind your husband that he does not smell like roses all of the time either...lol

Topic: Sense of Smell
I had my surgery on 12/4 and seem to have lost my sense of smell. I can only smell a few things and of course those are strong foul odors. I fixed a nice spaghetti dinner with homemade garlic spaghetti sauce and garlic bread for my kids the other night and could not smell a thing! Has anyone else experienced this and will I ever get to smell food again?

I agree. YOu are going to mess up everything the surgeon has done. If anything try some SF jello with SF cool whip, Lord, don't mess it up!

Wendi, Thank You so much for the info. I was worried that my husband would start staying in the other room permanently and eventually sleep on the couch, ha ha ha. Anyway it is good to know I am not doing something wrong. Jeannie
