Post Date: 1/14/08 9:48 pm Gosh...having myself banded 12/12/07 and having a conversation with my dr at my last visit, he also blurted out a $2,000 figure for a fill. I had NO clue what was involved in a fill. He explained it is done through radiology and from what I remember, ultrasound was involved and I drink a barium? and it is monitored ...it has to be via ultrasound. Sound right? My daughter was with me and she is a medical student and she said it was very clear. I had NO idea and skimming over the posts, in my mind, I imagined lying back on the table in the examining room and having him filling a syringe and going for it. I realize it sounds ridiculous, but if you had any clue the amount of medical care I have had, I fault myself for not knowing everything about it. I asked him if insurance covered it and all he said is if it did not I'd be getting a bill. In NO way do I hold this physician at fault. I accept 100% blame if bills come at me unexpected. My physician is so respected all over the world for his knowledge of medicine, in no way do I expect him to worry about my insurance company and charges. He has staff that handles that and the individual staff member that is responsible for the connection between my insurance and the process I had, will be questioned. (clearing throat) I am having some rough times keeping myself motivated due to "life issues".....anyone from the SouthBay in Southern California? Would love a walking supportive buddy! I have bought a couple of good books too that give you recipes according to your week post op that are really good, search amazon.com they will give you great ideas. Just put in cookbooks for bariatric eating and a whole bunch come up!

Well I am only walking right now and doing arm weights under 10lbs! That is what my doctor says until 6 weeks then anything goes with caution. I am amazed you have the energy to do all that considering you are almost 3 wks. I am 5 wks out and I still get really tired, but I am a nurse and have been back to work for a week now and that pretty much takes all my energy. Good luck with your 3 wk appt.

I'm surprised that you've been cleared to do so much already! I'm 4 weeks out and am not allowed to do anything other than walking. So that's what I do every day. Walk, walk, walk, walk, walk. walk, walk........ At two weeks I was not supposed to lift anything over 5 pounds........... When I go in for my 6 week check, I'm really hoping to be cleared for a lot of other things! Keep up the good work!

I use both a digital food scale and my measuring cups/spoons. I also bought some containers that are freezable, microwaveable, and dishwasher safe. They have markings on them to indicate their capacity in both ounces and cups. That allows me to portion out my food ahead of time. And to store leftovers accordingly. I have two scales at home: 1. Made by Thinner, bought it at Bed Bath and Beyond several years ago. It is a digital scale that measures both weight and body fat. 2. Made by Produex. Hubby bought it for me right after surgery at KMart. It measures weight, body fat, muscle weight, and water weight. The problem with your scale may just be that its time to change the battery. The one I have made by thinner does that around the time that the battery starts getting low.

If you can't drink water in the mornings, maybe try a cup of herbal or decaf tea. It will also count towards your water intake. Peppermint Tea, Green Tea and White Tea are all great for nausea.

I'm swimming. The hotel here has an indoor pool. The Doc said at about 4 weeks I can hit it a bit harder, but for now, I'm walking and swimming. I get that left side pain, too, but it's not bad. I actually ran the other day a bit to hit the Metro on time, and I wasn't as out of breath as usual. I lost 7 this week.

I walk between 2 and 4 miles every day. I am not allowed to lift any weights until i am 8 wks out period. i am allowed to walk outside/or treadmill, the eliptical as long as i don't use my arms, the recombant (sp) bike and the wave machine again as long as i don't use my abs much. the walking for me is great, one its exercise and two it gets my puppy out of the house and calmed down...lol.

Thanks to the few who have responded and advised me. I thought I should let you know that I challenged my eating limits for about 4 days and have since got back on track. I did end up feeling it! My stomach felt very distended and I felt nauseated. I do go back to my surgeon this thursday and we will see how close I am to a fill and returning to work. I am a youth service worker, so my main concern is if I am capable of restraining youth if necessary, as this is a part of my job description and would like to return without limitations. My calorie consumption is back to 650-1100 calories per day and this is with my protein drinks, liquids and pureed foods. Once again, thanks for your responses!
