Nice progress Christine! Sounds like you know what you need to do, so my best wishes for you to get tha****er and protein in.
Just had the flu for the past week, and it was misery trying to eat protein. Just made me nauseous. Better now though.
I'll post my 3 month numbers/photo this week.
Congrats again!

Vicky, congrats on your great progress. Really! 53 lbs is fantastic.
Think about it, you accomplished in 3 months what you could not in 15 years of dieting. Is this not wonderful??? Isn't that perspective on your progress?
One more suggestion... and I know it's a tough thing for many of us who have struggled with obesity for so many years... but give some serious thought to posting photos of yourself on your profile.
We are all losing weight so rapidly that our mental image of ourselves rarely keep up with reality. We are smaller than we think! Photos can capture that progress in ways that a mirror can't.
Come out of stealth mode if you can. Show us and yourself the changes that you've won thru your hard work.
Continued great success!
Mike

That's one thing I've found reading the message boards on this site - the dr's are very different. After my surgery I had to be on clear liquids for 4 weeks and I've seen others who are eating soft foods just days after surgery. I find it very weird that there is such a huge difference in the "rules"!! I guess that keeps things interesting!!

Hi, Vicky - I do exercise. I go to Curves 4-5 times a week and I try to get some walking in, too, but am not always too successful with that. Are you familiar with Curves? What appealed to me mostly was that it just takes 30 minutes and works all areas of your body. There's one just a block from my office so I make that my first stop after work - if I went home first, I wouldn't go back out to exercise!! I agree that it would be much easier to exercise with a friend - some days it's hard to make myself do it! I have a treadmill at home and use that sometimes, but prefer walking outdoors. I'm glad you found this site and decided to post. I've found the support and info here to be really helpful. I'm sure your weight loss will continue and you'll be happy with the results of your surgery! Hang in there!!

I am amazed-my dr only says up to 50grams of protien a day plus al the vits. The dietian and Dr says by now we should be able to get our protien in by the food we eat. I agree every dr. is different but I didn't realize that they are SO different.

Thanks for replying, Nancy, I am new to this site but thought it might give me some insight. Are you doing any kind of excerising? I joined the local gym but for one reason or another I haven't been going on a regular bases. I want to but I always find an excuse. I think if I had someone to go with me would help but all my friends work days and I work 2nd shift so that leaves me hi and dry!

It just amazes me how different each dr's "rules" are... My surgeon tells us that we will be drinking protein shakes for the rest of our lives. He says that after surgery our bodies don't absorb much in the way of nutrients from our food and we need to get them from other sources. My dr's protocol is that I take probably 18-20 different pills (everything from Vitamin A to Zinc!) a day as well as getting 90 grams of protein through the shakes. Whatever food I take in after that is more or less just for my own gratification... I know we should follow our own dr's rules, but I personally don't think it would hurt you to have a shake every day to help get the protein grams in. But then I'm no doctor!!
Topic: RE: Easy Way out!! I put this on the main board also... What do you think???
People who would say things like that are just ignorant! I may be a little naive, because I haven't faced that comment, but if you get that one again, you might want to try to educate them a bit... Remind them that it was major surgery you went through and that even then it is only a 'tool' - we still need to make the right choices in what we put in our mouth! Good for you for working out in the gym and for considering getting a trainer!!

Hi, Vicky - Sounds to me like you're doing great! I had surgery on 12/6/07 and as of last week I'm down 62 pounds - but that includes some pre-op loss as I was on a 2 week clear liquid diet pre-op. I've thought, too, that it should be coming off quicker, but I think we're both doing just fine! It does seem odd that you've had the dry heaves the last few days - you might want to check in with your surgeon's office just to be sure it's nothing to be concerned about. It does sound like you and I are having similar experiences. I haven't eaten anything that's made me sick or anything. I don't eat a lot but do get my protein shakes in each day as well as a little food. Anyway, I think you're doing great - keep up the good work!!

You hang in there! I have a couple of friends that I feel are jealous of my weight loss and they don't come around much or talk much when we are together. Don't let them beat you down you be proud and go for the gusto! Go out to eat just share a meal with some one., That is what my husband and i do. I still enjoy going out to eat I just order something I can eat and feel good about! Hang in there and be proud!
