Topic: RE: Hello December peeps
Hi, Tracy - I'm right there with you! I had surgery yesterday and am home today! All went well so far. I'm on clear liquids until I see the dr. next Friday and then will be able to add in protein shakes. I haven't been hungry, either, and have mostly jus had water so far. I'm glad that you are doing well, too, and join you in wishing all the other December family all the best in their surgeries and recoveries! Now we can all get on that loser's bench!! ~Nancy~

Topic: RE: HELP!!!!!
Hi Jeannie, I had surgery on Tuesday. Today is the my first day on full liquid. Remember your protein shakes too. I got Bene protein from the walgreens web site and they delivered it right to my door. 1 scoop is 6 grams and it tastes pretty good. I have been adding it to applesauce and soups. Your shakes have the most so drink those first.

Topic: HELP!!!!!
I am one week postop and I am a little confused as to how I can measure the amount of protein I eat and how to get enough throughout the day. They tell you to keep sipping on water to get the 64ozs but how do you eat if that is what you do??? How do I locate a HIGH protein powder to add to my food? I have one with 5mg per tablespoon and I usually use 2 tbs to get the best benifit. I live near Safeway, Walmart(not a super center), and Fred Meyers. Can someone please give me some pointers?? ~Jeannie~

Topic: December 20th...
...is my surgery date! I am on day two of the pre-op diet and hating every minute of it. But I know how important it is so I am sticking to it. The worst thing is my headache but hopefully that will go away with time.

Topic: RE: anyone else getting pressured for surgery?
The Dr did not pressure me to switch but the psych. really talked to me about it a lot. I thought I wanted to do the LB, but after the consult with the psych, talking it over with my husband and thinking about it a lot I decided to change to RNY. For me it was because: 1. long history of yo-yo 2. BMI of almost 49 3. LOVE sweets 4. want fast results.... ie better than 1-2 lbs per week 5. I want a permanent change I finally admitted to myself that I just can't do it on my own and I needed all the tools I could get. I also was afraid that I would loose the 40-50% of extra weight and still be obese. Let it be your choice though.

Only you kow what is right for you. Do your research and ask question as needed. Don't let any one pressure you. I do understand her concern, however. I know many people that have converted from a band to rny, but it's up to you! Best wishes to you! -Cara

Topic: RE: How important is Pre-op Diet?
Hi Christine: My name is Patricia Patton (pdplpn) and lst I am a gastric bypass pt 7 1/2 mos out since my surgery and have lost a total of 135 lbs. The lst 45 lbs came off prior to my surgery during the 6 mos waiting period. I followed the surgeron's recommended 1200-1500 cal diet and I worked out at Curves at least 3-5x weekly I also took all the recommended vitamins I was to start after surgery before, so I could get use to the tatstes and in a good habit of taking them. Now, as an RN I can tell you this was vital to me. I was a less surgical risk and the doc had an easier time in surgery. he also told me because of the massive adhesions I had from 3 c-sections and a hysterectomy yrs ago spared me an open proceedure. I was healthy and in good shape. I have an unsual condition with healing which caused months of complications and hospitalizations. It was not something usual but, none the less I had 4 surgeries and 4 endoscopies since the gastric by pass and he told me I hung in there literally because I was in good shape before the surgery. You know any surgery has a risk of complications and this surgery is nothing to sneeze at or routine. You will get a jumps start on the weight loss, it will help you get use to new eating habits and make recovery better for you. Write me sometime to keep me updated. Insurance wants to see if you are commited to weight loss and helps for the approval. You want the best outcome. Say goodbye to old eating habits now, so you can concentrate on recovery and picking up in a smaller capacity in eating.... Patricia

Isn't the pre-op diet also important in regards to post op recovery for the stomach and intestines?
