Okay this is just a question that a friend of mine has who is thinkin about haing the RNY how important is quitting smoking before surgery??

Now I'm not a doctor or an RN or anything but I do know it totally dpends on the doctor for the liquid diet before hand! My doctor is not having me do this liquid diet before hand and my surgery is next week monday (12-17-07) I'm excited and everything! The only thing I have to do pre-op is stop eating after 5p on sunday and no fluids after midnight. So in my opion you should call your doctor (or his head nurse) and tlak to them about it to see what is to be best for you and to see if starting your liquid diet now would help! Don't cut yourself short 
and don't make it to where the surgery is harder for and for the surgoen! Either way Good luck with your dision and your surgery!!

Hi Elisa, I'm scheduled for the 20th as well. Trying to stick with my pre-op. I started this past Friday the 7th. It's been a battle. I too struggle with the headaches.

I just had mine done on Friday the 7th. Pearl Harbor Day! It has been going well for me also. I am a little sore but it's doing good! Congrats on your surgery too!

I am on the pre op
I like chocolate boost glucose control(16 grs. protein) w/2/3 c. skim milk (5) 2 tbls. peanut butter(7) and a banana(not sure) I blaend it all and then put in in the freezer for an hour or so. A yummy protein treat.
Or vanilla boost with justa banana and shim milk thats good. I use dry milk a lot (8 protein) in things like blended soup or with yogert.

I live on a outer island and without knowing my history or even seeing me I was also pressured over the phone to get a bypass instead of a band. I believe the reason is that they haven't done many bands. Spoke to them about the middle of Oct. they had just done their first one. I chose to have the band put on in San. Fran. for that reason.

I had my band put in on Nov. 1 st and I am hungery most of the time too. I just had a fill with the hopes to slow down the hunger. I wasn't very good at keeping to the liquid diet because of the hunger. However the weight is slowly comeing off and I am going through a lot of crystal light and a lot of protein drinks.
