I am 3 months post op and am doing pretty good. I haven't found any food that makes me sick, but have had the dry heves twice in the last 4 days and can't figure out why. i am down 53lbs and am loving every minute of the new me. It has been at least 15 years since I was this weight. I do have a problem thinking that this weight should come off faster? Any support is appriecated.

Hi, Vicky - Sounds to me like you're doing great! I had surgery on 12/6/07 and as of last week I'm down 62 pounds - but that includes some pre-op loss as I was on a 2 week clear liquid diet pre-op. I've thought, too, that it should be coming off quicker, but I think we're both doing just fine! It does seem odd that you've had the dry heaves the last few days - you might want to check in with your surgeon's office just to be sure it's nothing to be concerned about. It does sound like you and I are having similar experiences. I haven't eaten anything that's made me sick or anything. I don't eat a lot but do get my protein shakes in each day as well as a little food. Anyway, I think you're doing great - keep up the good work!!

Thanks for replying, Nancy, I am new to this site but thought it might give me some insight. Are you doing any kind of excerising? I joined the local gym but for one reason or another I haven't been going on a regular bases. I want to but I always find an excuse. I think if I had someone to go with me would help but all my friends work days and I work 2nd shift so that leaves me hi and dry!

Hi, Vicky - I do exercise. I go to Curves 4-5 times a week and I try to get some walking in, too, but am not always too successful with that. Are you familiar with Curves? What appealed to me mostly was that it just takes 30 minutes and works all areas of your body. There's one just a block from my office so I make that my first stop after work - if I went home first, I wouldn't go back out to exercise!! I agree that it would be much easier to exercise with a friend - some days it's hard to make myself do it! I have a treadmill at home and use that sometimes, but prefer walking outdoors. I'm glad you found this site and decided to post. I've found the support and info here to be really helpful. I'm sure your weight loss will continue and you'll be happy with the results of your surgery! Hang in there!!

Vicky, congrats on your great progress. Really! 53 lbs is fantastic. Think about it, you accomplished in 3 months what you could not in 15 years of dieting. Is this not wonderful??? Isn't that perspective on your progress? One more suggestion... and I know it's a tough thing for many of us who have struggled with obesity for so many years... but give some serious thought to posting photos of yourself on your profile. We are all losing weight so rapidly that our mental image of ourselves rarely keep up with reality. We are smaller than we think! Photos can capture that progress in ways that a mirror can't. Come out of stealth mode if you can. Show us and yourself the changes that you've won thru your hard work. Continued great success! Mike

Hi Vicky, I had surgery on Dec 17th and also feel my weight loss is a bit slow, I have lost 53-54lbs as well! I lost a total of 67lbs pre op (57 in the 3 months immediately preop), so I assume that's why I am losing a bit slower than others...BUT, if you think about, 53lbs in 3 months??!??!?!? That's nothing to sneeze at!!!! Good Work!!!!!!

Congratulations! 53 lbs. makes such a difference, doesn't it? I am 3 months post op as well, and I have lost 50 lbs. I am noticing a lot it my clothes. I am able to get into all my old "small clothes" that I saved hoping I'd lose weight someday. I have not found too many things that make me sick either, but I took a swig of water the other day with my birth control pill and I had nausea and the dry heaves for a little while. I guess sometimes you don't know why your body does the things it does. I also noticed that creamy dairy like cheesecake and ice cream affects me horribly. Now, I know you aren't supposed to eat those, but they were just "bites" of them. Keep up the good work. I am having challenges with exercise. I still feel lazy. Teresa

Hi Teresa. I can tell you that it's the sugar in the cheesecake and ice cream that makes you feel like hell. You are 'dumping' because of the sugar. I can't tell what kind of surgery you've had from your profile, and it matters because dumping is a significant factor for RNY people as opposed to Lapband people for example. Do yourself a big favor and cut the sugar-containing items out of your diet. The dumping (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea) will go away and you will lose weight faster. Sorry for the un-asked-for advice. Mike
