Is your body holding on to pounds?

I had my surgery on December 17th and lost 10 lbs very quickly - I have hovered at the same weight for over a week (actually I went up a couple lbs and then back down) What is your body doing?

My surgery was the 17th as well. I lost 22 pounds the first week, and nothing to speak of since then. It is very common to have a stall during weeks 2 and/or 3. The stalls average about 7-10 days but of course can vary with each individual. This is just our body's way of trying to catch up and figure out what we are doing. The most important thing at this stage is to stick to our eating plan so that our bodies come out of starvation mode and realize that this is the new normal for us.

This is very helpful - especially to know about the usual plateau - thank you Genesis! I'm down 1 lb today so perhaps this has broke. I did eat a bit more than usual yesterday - around 800 calories - maybe that helped.....

You are definitely NOT alone with this issue!!! Just be aware that anytime we transition to a new food stage we are likely to hit a stall. (I hit mine right after the transition to stage 2 foods, sounds like that's what you experienced too.) So keep up with your eating plan, drink lots of fluids to help push the fat out, and try to increase your walking by a minimum of 10 minutes each week for the first 8 weeks. Then add additional exercise when your doc clears you.

I'm one week today and am down 20, but that's probably mostly water.

I had surgery on 12/27 and have lost 15 lbs as of today. I'm sure it will start to slow down any day now. I try to increase my exercise little by little each day to hopefully help with it.

I had surgery on 12/20 and gained 10 lbs immediately and am only now down to pre surgery weight. I can tell I am still swollen. I thought it was just me. Thanks for the post, MileHigh

Hi Jenni! My body held onto pounds until today...day 4 post op. Finally today I saw a 7 pound drop in the scale. I was getting obsessed! I could not understand how I could eat NOTHING and see no weight loss! I think its normal. All the gas and healing and such. Cheers! Heather RNY 12/31/07
