Fasting help
Hello everyone,
I am new to this message board stuff! It is
I have a tentative date for the end of March ( I have to plan around school) Also I'm paying cash so they won't give the date until $$ is in hand. Soooo what I'm wondering is I have a friend who is trying to get me to switch doctors. She says this clinic Northwest Weight Loss doesn't have you fast and they are more liberal with what you can eat after surgery... Not sure how I feel about this since I get why you fast before hand and after so what do you guys think?? Did all of you do the 10 clear liquid diet before and 10 days after???
Thanks for any advice you may have!!!
Melissa
I didn't have that. But, I felt that my surgeon was the right choice long before I knew what my dietary requirements would be. I stuck with him and did what he required, because I knew I had made the right choice.
I'm 13 days post-op from lap RNY, and feeling as if I had nothing different done. I'm back to work, "eating" a full-liquid diet, walking, and generally feeling very confident in my decisions.
I'm not trying to brag, but just to say that the diet isn't what defines the surgeon. Hope this helps.
I think I would be leery of anyone who offers any easier or softer way- I know personally, I have had my fill of Painless diets- they got me right where I am today-
I am following the meal plan to the letter, as well as the exercise guidelines- Be cautious and if you don't have a good feeling about your surgeon, go to another- I think a 10 day liquid diet beforehand is approorpriate- I did 10 days to shrink my organs before being banded- I am now a little over a week in and have lost 16 pounds-
Good Luck!
I agree with Kathleen. I am not required to have a liquid diet 10 days before, but my surgeon said to eat light, high protein, low carb to shrink my liver the week before, and then liquids only for the day before and no bowel prep. I don't think this makes him better or worse. Each surgeon has their own preferences and I would never dream of changing surgeons because of the diet. I'm more concerned with the amout of surgeries the surgeon has performed, success rates, complication rates, mortality rates, as well as testimonials from past clients.
Good luck
