Just had surgery on 12/12/07. (lap band) Don't feel real good. Trying though. Tried the powdered Isopure. Yuk. Now going to try the unflavored Pro Cell. 3 days and not able to get qll liquid down that is recommended. Can anyone tell me about their experience and help me figure out what is happening?

I haven't been able to get all the recommended liquid down either, but each day, I am adding more, so I am assuming that is okay. I am not fond of the protein drinks either, but after a month or so, figure they won't be nearly as important. Keep adding more and more liquids daily, and that should help. Are you able to have creamed soups. I was told to have creamed soups, such as chicken or mushroom, but to be sure to strained them before drinking. Also to use 2% milk as the base and if needed add some unflavored protein powder. Hope that helps. We had our surgery the same day. I had lapband. How 'bout you?

Thank you for the info. Yes creamed soups are good. I was told to use 1% milk. Today tried the Pro Cell to Instant Breakfast. Not bad. I will try your recommendation of adding it to the soup. Thank you sooooo much. Had the Lap Band. Daughter had it the same day also.

It is really hard to get through that period...gosh I still cant stand cream of wheat and mashed potatoes lol BUT you will get through it and just remember that every day that goes by you will get closer to normalcy. I had a very hard time with the protein drinks,I tried them all and they all suck! but the good news is,after you start on solid foods you will be able to eat protein bars instead if you want. Something you may try with your drinks is to put the drink and ice in a blender and the crushed ice seems to make it much more bare- able...also Im sure you know this, but always, always take your vitamins at this period especially it is very important for your health. Something I did that made that more easy to do is I bought the flintstone gummy vitamins with iron, they are yummy and have only a few calories and most of all its like gettting a treat!you can actually stand to chew these up instead of those chalky ones...(yuck). Also they are supposed to have as much vitamins as ones like centrum complete.....you can get you some sugar free pop cycles, and I got one of the microwave bowls of campbells chicken noodle soup and then a bunch of cans of it...then i would reuse the microwave bowl to drain it and drink the broth!it was sooo much better than the broth alone. But anyhow, these are just a things I did,I dont know if it helps or not but I hope so! Just hang in there! It will get better...best wishes!

Hi There- We had surgery on the same day! I tried the blue raspberry isopure that is pre-mixed in glass bottles. Then I watered it down with water. It's the best out of all the others I've tried. I also have in my fridge from a recommendation World Wide Whey in chocolate. It comes cold in a can. I will try it on Tuesday when we switch over to full liquids. I purchased them both at a place called the Vitamin Shoppe.Hopefully this helps.

Hi Hey if you can drink the protein shake cause they taste really really bad, you might wanna try 1 called "muscle milk lite". Its only 20% protein and does the job just as well if not better the a regular shake, and it doesnt make my diabetes or my sugar numbers go up. Since the surgery 12-4 i have only had to take 1 insulin shot,so the diabetes is basicly gone! 2 weeks out and i'm feeling great.....clothes are looser already yippie it will get better! GOOD LUCK Joe G

I had my Lab Band procedure on 12/12 and felt good with minimal pain. After day 2 I had no pain. Following the diet exactly, the water I haven't measured out but I love sugar free popsicles which seems obvious to be part of my liquid. The nutritionist says I can have a half of one with no reason given even when questioned twice. I have a habit I need to break and that's picking up a water bottle while thirsty and just guzzling it down. The cream of mushroom, celery and chicken I put in the blender with a can of fat free milk and I don't strain. Blending does the job. I have a problem that I want to know if any one else has. Yesterday 12/18 I developed a minor pain in the area that I assume is the port. The incision is small and below my left breast and it's getting a bit pink around it. Anyone have that problem? Did you find out why? I wrote my surgeon an email and he is excellent in reading and returning one. I asked for an antibiotic as his office is an hour away on a good CA freeway day. HA That won't be tomorrow or Friday since LAX is in between his office and me. Protein drinks...I like the Atkin's just fine. Best of Luck to All! Lori in Torrance, CA

Thank you to everyone that responded to my earlier post. Still don't like protien powder, but doing the best I can. The "mushie" stage is not too bad. Solids are sooo close. YES!

hey dawlin', i purchased some french vanila protein shakes from GNC and they are actually pretty good. the one that i purchased is 17oz and has 42 grams of protein - which is GREAT!! they also have chocolate shakes which you may like better. what i do to keep them down is drink slowly 6 sips, wait 15 minutes and drink 6 more sips slowly, wait 15 minutes until i am full. in the 15 minutes, you should tell if you are full or not. try it, it may help - let me know. tamu
