I am one week postop and I am a little confused as to how I can measure the amount of protein I eat and how to get enough throughout the day. They tell you to keep sipping on water to get the 64ozs but how do you eat if that is what you do??? How do I locate a HIGH protein powder to add to my food? I have one with 5mg per tablespoon and I usually use 2 tbs to get the best benifit. I live near Safeway, Walmart(not a super center), and Fred Meyers. Can someone please give me some pointers?? ~Jeannie~

Hi Jeannie, I had surgery on Tuesday. Today is the my first day on full liquid. Remember your protein shakes too. I got Bene protein from the walgreens web site and they delivered it right to my door. 1 scoop is 6 grams and it tastes pretty good. I have been adding it to applesauce and soups. Your shakes have the most so drink those first.

Hi Jeannie, I also had surgery on Tuesday...my doctor and his team gave me an excellent booklet of tips. I order Optimum Nutrition from allstarhealth.com and it is great the shipping is very reasonable. it has 24 grams of protein for every 8-10 oz. of water. I was told to get at least 40-60 grams per day. This way I drink 8 oz in the am and 8 oz in the pm. I have been sipping on water and some crystal light. I was also allowd to have yoplait light. ( the drink of course.) Hope this helps. My doc just said stay away from high calorie/high fat soups and such like store bought...homemade is better. hope that helps.

Thanks Christine, This opens up some new things for me. Doc says 40-60gms, huh, that sounds easier then 60+gms. I also go an email that told me about protein bullets you can get from another support website. I have been using the fit and light yogurt and it has 0 sugars, it works good but I am VERY tired of the protein drinks and yogurt and protein powders. So I am looking for new ideas and recipes. But what you said is very helpful. Thanks! Jeannie

I don't have any problem with the protein levels and I was told to have 70 grams a day. Safeway and Walmart have a protein drink called Eas. It comes in a pack of 4. It is good and at 17 grams of protein with only 1 carb and 100 calories it's good. Also at the GNC (I think that is the name of the store that sell vitamin's in most malls). They have a few different ones. One I believe is called Isopure, comes in powder form in a galleon jar. It is 50 gram per per glass. So 1 1/2 glass of water with the powder mixed in will give you 70 grams. Any liquids count toward you 64ozs a day. If you want to know some places on the net to order (shipping is expensive) you can email me.
