Only you kow what is right for you. Do your research and ask question as needed. Don't let any one pressure you. I do understand her concern, however. I know many people that have converted from a band to rny, but it's up to you! Best wishes to you!

The Dr did not pressure me to switch but the psych. really talked to me about it a lot. I thought I wanted to do the LB, but after the consult with the psych, talking it over with my husband and thinking about it a lot I decided to change to RNY. For me it was because:
1. long history of yo-yo
2. BMI of almost 49
3. LOVE sweets
4. want fast results.... ie better than 1-2 lbs per week
5. I want a permanent change
I finally admitted to myself that I just can't do it on my own and I needed all the tools I could get. I also was afraid that I would loose the 40-50% of extra weight and still be obese.
Let it be your choice though.
Just from my surgeons information session, I made the same decision for the same reasons. I also factored in my age, which is 40. My surgeon also informed me when I did finally meet with him, that not all insurance plans are covering fills. I weighed all the options, and the amount of recovery, etc. and decided that RNY gastric bypass was the best option for me at this time. I had surgery this past Wednesday, and am doing very well.
I would recommend to anyone considering any of the surgeries to talk to as many people as possible who have had surgery of any type and get opinions and experiences.
I live on a outer island and without knowing my history or even seeing me I was also pressured over the phone to get a bypass instead of a band. I believe the reason is that they haven't done many bands. Spoke to them about the middle of Oct. they had just done their first one. I chose to have the band put on in San. Fran. for that reason.
