Hi ALL
I have a surgery (RNY) date of Dec 14th! I have a question. How many of you told your co-workers?
I have told only my boss and have planned to tell the rest that is the flu, at least for now, until it become obvious (I hope!). Only been lurking a week or so. What a great resource!!

Congratulations on your date, Janis! I'm glad you came out of "lurking"!! It took me a while to do that... As far as telling coworkers, it's really a personal decision. I chose to only tell a couple and the rest know I'm having surgery, but not the type of surgery. Because of my job, I had to plan ahead to be off for this time so people knew I was taking off work.
I'm sure that it will be obvious before too long why you were off work!! I agree that this site is great! Not only for the resource, but the support of others. That really helps me a lot! I wish you all the best as you head toward that surgery date in just over a week!! My thoughts and prayers will be with you on the 14th! Take care...

Hi, Janis - My surgery went very well... Fortunately, I was the first surgery of the day so after checking in at 5:30 a.m. last Thursday, I was whisked away and didn't have too much time to think about anything until I was back in my room that afternoon! I was told I went to recovery about 10:20 a.m., but I'm not sure what time I was in my room. The first I really remember was about 2:30 that afternoon... I was discharged about noon on Friday and felt really pretty good. I don't want to scare you, but I did have a rough day on Saturday - I think it mainly was because the hospital meds finally all wore off... So my suggestion to you is to be sure to listen very closely to your body and take your meds. I had some nausea, but once I got the anti-nausea drug in, I did much better! Every day is getting better and better!! I see the surgeon again this Friday and anticipate being released to work then and will be back to work next Monday... I hope your nerves have settled down a bit - I was definitely nervous, too...even up to the morning of surgery - I think that's a normal emotion... Just remember all the reasons you chose to have WLS and focus on the goal of being healthier and thinner! My thoughts and prayers will be with you on Friday!! I'll look forward to hearing how your big day goes, too!!
