Hernia???

Whoa, I got so excited tonight and have to share....I might have an abdominal hernia!!!!  If my tummy weren't so sore (very localized and right where there is a little cord-like lump) I'd be doing handstands.  Gonna cross my fingers and my toes and anything else that will cross that this turns out to be a hernia cause if it is then my insurance would pay for a tummy tuck.

That isn't as exciting as your upcoming LBL, Melissa, but go****'d be soooooo wonderful!

Anybody else have a hernia (or have had one) that could give me a little info on what this should feel like if it is one?  I don't actually see a bulge and from what I read on the internet it doesn't sound the same.  No bruise I can see either...when this started hurting yesterday I thought maybe I'd poked myself in the belly with something at work for it to be sore like that.  But it is only sore to the touch or when I'm lifting things.  Hmmm...

Anyway, I'm happy to have something to be happy about and wanted to share it with my Dec. sibs.

Hope the rest of your week is great!

Molly

This is exciting however I am worried as you mention pain when you push or lift... some hernias can be very serious so just be careful and watch for further warning signs, increased pain or changes in bowel habits etc.. b/c a hernia is usually bowel that has pushed through the muscle lining and blood supply can be interrupted causing ischemia (lack of oxygen) to the bowel and in turn necrosis (death of the tissue - or loss of bowel in this case).

I am not trying to scare you but just want you to be able to on the look out for any possible complications if it were to worsen if that is indeed what it is.

On a lighter note this may mean a free TT.. yeah for you!!!!! ;)
Hugs, Melissa

Saw the doctor today and she didn't feel anything she thought was a hernia.  What she felt  (and OW, her poking hurt!) she said was the muscle.  So maybe I tore the muscle.   That would mean no tummy tuck but since I hadn't been crazy to get one done in the first place I shouldn't get too disappointed.

The base put in a consult for an abdominal ultrasound so now I have to wait for that office to call to set up the appointment.  I'll let you know how it goes.  For now, I will keep an eye on bowel habits and the dr. also said to watch for nausea or vomiting.  She gave me a 20# weight restriction sheet for work.  That was my main concern: I noticed that after a few hours at work the pain got worse and didn't hesitate to get seen.  My boss is really wonderful about stuff like that, plus she's had a really bad hernia herself and didn't want me to mess around waiting.

So in the meantime, I am crossing fingers for a hernia!  LOL

Molly, I had a hernia but it never hurt. Sometimes I think that the doc was lying to me but who cares......it was removed over a year ago and I got my panni removed at the same time. Insurance paid for most of it, I had a hefty copay but it was manageable.

Good luck to you and keep us posted!!!!

Bea, did you have any nausea or bowel symptoms with it?  I don't have any of that but was told to watch out for it.

I really don't need a panni but would really love the tummy tuck stuff where they go in and tighten those ab muscles.  Not that I''d turn down some skin removal mind you!

Waiting on an ultrasound appointment now to see what is up with it and if there is anything next or just waiting to see if it is a torn muscle that will heal on its own.  You know i'm cheering for the hernia, twisted huh?  LOL
