Vitamin Question
Okay first hello everyone and thanks so much for always being there for me as wayward as I am. Anyway now that school is back in session * Year round, I will be a weekend warrior until my next break in Sept. so not to worry i will do my posting on wekend i promise!! Anyway i have a vitamin question this far out can we now take a multi vitamin that we can swallow or do you still take chewable? thanks Kelly
Hi Kelly! You can certainly take a regular vitamin but my PCP and surgeon both agree that if you can take ANY vitamins in a liquid or chewable form you are going to have the best absorption most likely. So I still take two chewable flinstones which honestly if you compare that to any adult vitamin its even more than 1 regular multi. Centrum makes a chewable that is excellent as well. You would only have to take one of these. Hope this helps. Hugs!
Hi Kelly,
We just discussed vitamins Thursday night at support group. My surgeon still recommends Optisource (which is available in Spokane at Walgreens) four times a day. It is a specialty bariatric vitamin. A one-month bottle is around $25.
However, our sg leader who is the bariatric coordinator and five years out from surgery still takes chewable Flintstone vitamins because that is what was available when she had her surgery and has been successful with it herself.
So long as you still get your calcium in citrate form instead of carbonate, plenty of iron and B-12 it shouldn't matter what vitamin you take but I agree with Melissa that the chewable form which is absorbed better by us is better.

My only problem with the optisource (my surgeons pushes these too, but admitted to me its more for compliance reasons rather than "best vitamin overall" reason).
1) has calcium carbonate so you have to take a citrate on top of this vitamin.
2) the b12 in it isn't sublingual, so u have to take an additional b12
3) the iron in there isn't the best form and its with the calcium which cancels each other out, should be taken separately.
So just like you said above u still have to take all these other separately, for me it isn't worth the money nor the hassle, but that's my two cents
Don't I sound crabby? lol.. sorry this ear infection I have is making me growly.. lol
