Beck Discussion - Day 10
Day 10 - Set a Realistic Goal
Don't set a goal that is too daunting (I think I do this to myself, ahem) and make it achievable.
This can be about weight, a clothing size, or look a certain way.
Dr. Beck would rather us set short term goals so we don't get discouraged. Example would be 5 lbs. Then when you reach this goal, make another goal. Makes it seem more manageable.
Reward yourself for reaching yuor small goals. Celebrate with friends (not with food!) and buy yourself something, maybe a nice smelling lotion or a new shirt? Or put some money into a jar for when you reach goal for that special "something".
Slower the better with weight loss (gosh, I have trouble with this one!) It should be slow, she says there is no long-term benefit to losing weight too quickly. There is major disadvantage also.. you body may protect itself when the cals are too low and put you into starvation mode (I encounter this a lot myself.. I have to watch for this and when it happens I have to start calorie cycling.. go up to 1500 then bring it back down, etc)
Should only lose 1-2 lbs a week no more she says.
She says "once we accept the fact that we should focus on losing 5 lbs at a time, dieting will be easier."
Be sure and do your "to-do" list. Notice them building on themselves.. we are getting smarter and smart everyone!!!
Day 11 should be awesome.. differenciate between hunger, desire and cravings. I will try to fit this one in by the end of the week, I think its very important for us!
Have a great 4th everyone!!!!

Weigh****cher's weekly goal used to be 1-2 LBs / week, if I remember correctly.
The PA at my Surgeon mentioned that after 6 months post-op the average weight loss is 4 LB / month... 1 LB / week. That number seemed way too low. The Nutritionist described weight loss in terms of 10% increments; the less you weighed the less weight would be lost, which would tapper-off and then stabilize. Some Grads have mentioned that their "tool" continues to work for them years after WLS, as long as they monitor their calories and get in some exercise... even if they had a regain. Some reach goal much later than they expected. There's Hope & Slower is Better!
Love the idea of rewards!!! Just have to get used to rewarding myself!!! I did buy new "shades" and sandals, but didn't go for what I really wanted; the floating lounger.
A bit pricey... and I'm not certain that I'd use it... but I have it on my reward list now!
Good job with giving yourself a reward system. I still want a heart rate monitor but the one I want with all the "bells and whistles" is around 150-200 bucks.. and I won't settle for the cheaper version b/c I know I won't be happy with it. DH sees it as an unnecessary expense So we keep finding other things to buy before I buy that. I am thinking I can hold out till Christmas and put it on Santa's list. That or I will save my money for it then as my bday falls right after christmas also
