CT Scan & 24 Hour Urine Test

The 24 Hour Urine Test looked OK, but the CT Scan showed a pelvic fluid build-up. I will be going for CT guided fluid tap and will update on the results soon. The fluid should not be there, benign or not; so some treatment will be needed I'm sure. The Drs are more concerned with the organs in the abdomin, but the fluid is also near the rectum... so I am also going for another colonoscopy, as I have a family history there. My extra eating has helped to keep my weight around 132LB. I am a lot calmer knowing that I have a plan of action. Ro

At least they are finding something wrong. I know that sounds weird to hear but like you said once you find something then you can take action to correct the problem. I am praying for you and know I am here if you need anything Ro! Please keep us updated on your latest happenings with all of this.. think of you often, love ya!

Thanks, Mel... My Internist feels that the Gyno area is where my problem is, after reading the CT results and doing a brief mid-body exam. He doubts that it is related to the colon. I did get a copy of the CT Scan results. Basically, a small amount of fluid in both lungs for the abdomen area scan; a moderate amount of fluid in the area between the uterus and rectum for the pelvic scan. I have a consult with a Gynocological Oncologist Surgeon on Tuesday about the possible tapping of the pelvic fluid. I'll let you know... Love ya back... Ro

Hey, Mel... After re-reading the CT report, I think that I got the info confused. The wording on the reports is: small bilaterial pleural effusions are noted. No pericardial effusion is seen and the lung bases appear unremarkable. I think that I got the "inside the lung" part wrong. Seems that the small effusions are located in between the lungs and the abdomen area from what DH & I have seen on the web. We don't know if this relates to the pelvic info. Seems the more we read.. the more confusing things become to us. Internet

*hugs* The internet can have u thinking its all sorts of things.. don't let what you "google" as far as information have you in a tizzy just yet. I would lay low and wait for the doctor to explain it to you so you don't get yourself all worked up. God knows I would! Pleural effusion is an accumulation of fluid in the pleural space (the space between the lungs). We normally have some fluid to help lubricate the lungs (called surfactant). But there can be reasons why we would accumulate more than we should. That reason needs to be determined. Having extra fluid there can compromise your breathing or be a grounds for bacteria to grow. In some cases they even aspirate the fluid off by inserting a needle into the pleural space. This is called a thoracentesis. Ok I know all that sounds scary but we see these all the time in the hospital and they happen for a "benign" reason. Sometimes it just goes away on its own or the pt will have the thoracentesis and never have a problem again. Again, wait for your doctor to determine the why's, how's and what not's.. Ok.. don't let your mind jump to conclusions that aren't warrented right now. It is easy to do. Hugging you close and keep us posted ok? I am praying for you sweetie. I hope u can come "chat" with us tomorrow night. Love ya!

Thanks for the info!! The Gyn-Onc. did listen to my lungs yesterday, as did the Internist/Colon Dr. the other day. The Oncologist did a pelvic / abdomenal exam and made no negative comments. I had the CT at my local hospital and did not think to pick-up a CT Disc to bring to the appointment. DH & I will be driving to get and drop-off the disc today for his review. I think that the next step is an ultrasound with tap of the pelvic fluid, if possible. He said that we'll figure-out what's going on. That's Good! XOXOXO Ro Internet
