Beck Discussion - Day 3
Hi All! Well its now officially Saturday considering its 5 after midnight here.. but I didn't want to forget about our Friday Beck Discussion so here I am. Sorry I have not responded to any beck discussion posts.. I am lucky to get done what I am. I will try to go back and respond when or if I can.. glad some of you are still with me following along or plan to "catch up" over the weekend. If I am going to fast please let me know.. ok on with the discussion!
Day 3 - Eat Sitting Down
This one is simple. Be mindful when you eat by ALWAYS sitting down. If you are standing you cannot eat. This cuts down on mindless "grazing". These calories add up fast. Now if I am gonna be in the kitchen cooking "bars" for the Aaron's softball team et****ep gum in my mouth so I am not tempted too much to taste test.. however I did have a very very small smidge of a krispie bar the the other day.. ack.. but usually I try to keep my hands out. This keeps me accountable for what is going into my mouth. Must be conscious of everything you put into your mouth.
You won't be psychologically satisfied when you eat standing up vs. sitting down. By sitting down you are seeing your food all sitting out in front of you so you get "visual satisfaction" besides tasting, chewing and swallowing. She admits that if she has to eat something when preparing dinner its raw veggies.. lol.. i can see how this can work. I have to admit I do pickles when its not time to eat between meals.. I get the SF bread and butter pickles.. it gives me crunch and tons of sweet/salty flavor for 5 cals.. yes its a lot of sodium but its better than diving into the fridge right?
She says if you are tempted to eat outside of meal time then you need to stop whatever it is you are doing and go sit down to eat.. this maybe too cumbersome time wise for you to actually do so you will choose not to graze and make such a production out of this "nibble" and therefore resist it. A good thing.
She then of course goes over sabotaging thoughts about sitting to eat.
Once we accept the fact that we have to eat everything sitting down... you got it.. dieting will be easier.
Make sure you look at your to-do list.
I will see you Monday night (late) I have support group, unless I wake up early to do Day 4 discussion.
Have a *great* weekend.. and uhm hey.... thanks for helping me stay motivated and accountable. This week has been terrific for me.. it feels good to be in the groove and supported by all of you again.. I needed to find my way back here full time. I plan to keep it up.. MAKE time for it.. thats the key.
Hugs! ~Melissa

Sitting Down is harder than I thought that it would be because it is "breaking" a major pre-op behavior for me. Seems that pre-op, food that was consumed standing... preparing the meal, etc... was written-off, as if it did not happen and did not "count".
Standing is an "immediate" situation... like instant gratification... it happens so fast that it "couldn't count as a meal / snack".
Sitting Down makes it all purposeful, IF you pay attention what is being eaten.
I've sat down... talked to someone, while eating a fudgsicle... and don't remember its taste... feel... nothing... just an empty stick!
Looking at each mouthful... tasting... and making it last just a bit longer makes the Sitting Down more purposeful.
I have not gotten my mind around this one yet. Might need to write "SIT" on both sides of each hand to make this step a habit!
