Yesterday's Dr weigh-in were 137...136...
so I'm sticking with my commando 135...
Seems that my Nut was concerned about the drop from my highest (332+) so he recalculated it from my surgery weight (274) then he double-checked everything by using the hand-held Body Fat Mass device. At 30.5 Body Fat, he was OK with my weight and PS in the future. Lab results are coming in 2 weeks. Wish me luck!

You mean people actually weigh non-commando and count it???? Shocking!
I bet your labs will be great, you work so hard to keep them in line. Wish I weren't so tired now because I can't remember what they call the loss calculations they use at my surgeon's office. They have an algabraeic-looking formula that they do with your start weight and current weight, etc (what else, I don't know) and come up with a term to judge how closely a patient comes to the target % of bodyfat lost. Last time at my appt. I had lost 98% of my excess. Not too shabby....I bet with your numbers you come in even better than that!

Doc said 82% of the excess, but I am not sure if that was on the higher number or the recalculated one. Either way, I am happy with where I am now.
The nurse laughed when I took off my boots because she has had people who strip down as much as they can without going commando in the office. LOL
The Labs should be in in 2 weeks. This time I am going to get the pre-albumin (sp?) results that checks protein levels. I eat basically 65g, but he wants to make sure that it's being absorbed. Later the Surgeon mentioned that the Nut might want to lower my protein from 65g, as 30-50g is about all that a female WLS patient of my height / age in maintenance requires... unless there is another problem. Now... That has me really shaking my head. I thought that the 50-70g range was what I'd be on longterm. Seems that it's up to the Nut. I'll let you know what he says. Right now, they told me not to change anything that I'm doing. I want to hear the final protein number because I'm amazed that it could be so low. Right?
Ro
Ok Ro.. you know I am not a doctor but we have a part of the colon that has been bypassed that usually absorbs protein so you will NEVER get in as many grams as you take in.. never.. so to lower it to that level is downright scary if you ask me. he'd crap his pants at my protein levels.. 120 almost every day. I have done extensive research on malabsorption of RNY.. based on my research I chose 120 as a goal for life.. b/c I am a medial bypass.. again my own research but no way will I go lower than 100 a day.. never. Even with me eating this much protein my numbers are smack dab in the MIDDLE of normal range. Not high..

I purposely Did Not tell him about your protein intake, as I wanted to keep his ticker going!
He said that the NUT's # is what I should go by, as it's not his field, but that he was concerned about how the liver would handle the higher protein levels. He agreed with the OH RD that before and after PS protein levels should increase for healing by using suppliments; trying not to add extra calories. I have Pro-Stat 64 stashed for that.
His PA agreed with the OH RD comment about the intestine and colon being able to absorb calories; not vits & mins, by the 2nd year.
Now the NUT was a different story. He wants to make sure that I'm actually getting the averaged 65g of protein a day... much like what you are saying. So I'll know in 2 weeks where I stand. I plan to go with whatever the NUT recommends.
So my little Protein ... Thanks for watching my back! Ro
Hey Melissa, I know you are not a doc but I have a question for you....I had lab work done and PA said that everything was ok, however, since I always take a copy home when I looked at it I found that my "absolute eosinophils" is at 605 which is way above the normal range of 15 to 500. Do you know anything about it? I looked it up on the internet and it scared the heck out of me but I have not called my doc to ask---keep forgeting to do it during work hours----any inside?
Eosinphils are part of the white blood count, which when your actual white blood cells are high it means your body's defenses are up in response to something it doesn't care for like an allergen or a virus.. you would see a "shift" in these cells or other counterparts of the wbc count. Now you just had a TT so it could be a sign that the body is healing.. when you have trauma to tissues (like you have had with a TT) your body's defenses naturally go up so this may be part of the reason.
If you go searching on the internet for "elevated eosinphils" you are gonna find all sorts of cooky stuff like cancer to autoimmune diseases. remember in medicine there are MANY reasons for why things are the way they are.. so do not let this information freak you out. if your doctor didn't mention it then obviously they are not worried. There are many times our labs are outside the normal range and they just shrug it off to things like I mentioned above.. they don't get their panties in a wad over it if you will ;) If you are really concerned then call them and discuss it. It can't hurt to do that.
I really think its a matter of the healing process and your body being protective of itself.. a natural response.
Hugs,
Melissa
