The Beck Diet Solution?
Just an idea for the group before I go to bed...I've been kicking this around for a few days now. What do you think of the idea of us having our own little Dec. '06 bookclub and making this book a six-week project? Basically this book is set up with a short bit of reading every day for six weeks with a small set of questions for each day. We could project a start date to give everybody a chance to get the book and then go through it together.
I've found that this first week the stuff is so elemental and really applies to people who are just beginning to diet, not so much to people like us who have been doing it so long now but still it might be really useful for us to do this as a group. It wouldn't require much of a time committment and the posts wouldn't have to be very elaborate...just answers to that day's questions, really. I know we're all pretty busy with our own lives these days and maybe six weeks is too much of a project.
Opinions?

DH & I are both interested in knowing more of the WHYs of MO. We'll check with our local library today for a copy. There is a forum on SparkPeople about the Beck Diet, but it seemed confusing... here's the link... what do you think? Is there a format or am I just not seeing it.

I didn't know there was a Beck forum here but it figures! I'll go check it out later. No, it is ot a diet or a format...it is a six-week program with day-to-day tasks to change our thinking and self-talk to make us more successful dieters. You use any diet program you want and of course...we are already on one here!
Personally, I'd rather not go through the book with a whole new forum. It was just an idea that maybe there'd be enough interest her amongst our family to make it fun. When you get the book from the library poke through it and see what you think. It seems like you'd have to buy a copy unless you could get your library to let you have the book six weeks. ?? I'm not writing inside my copy, I'm using a spiral notebook and that way I can give the book to someone else later if I choose.

The SparkPeople forum seemed confusing to me... at different stages... with different people. I'm not interested in joining their forum. Just wanted to mention that it was there.
It sounds like fun to do it on the Dec MB... so I'm in. I did check with the library, which doesn't have it. Bummer! It sound worth the $$. So I'll shop for it tomorrow.

I haven't read ahead much since it is designed to be a day-at-a-time project for best results but the beginning really does seem geared at helping people who need to get started losing weight. We are all well on our way or at goal so we'd get different things out of it in the beginning. And personally, stuff the Dr. says to do I have already been trying to do so it has me really psyched about being on the right path to getting my thinking under control.
