Has anyone ever felt like this??
Hi Kay,
Have you ever had an ulcer? It sure sounds like you may have developed a marginal ulcer and should see your pcp or surgeon to have it checked. You may need to cut out the coffee and acidic foods to let your pouch heal and by all means, get back to drinking your water...that is so important for so many functions in our bodies.
My ulcers are behaving very well and I have very few flare-ups lately so I have brought the coffee back pretty much full-force. (Shhh...don't tell my surgeon!) As long as I keep taking my Nexium and carafate regularly the ulcers stay healed and pouchie is happy.
Are you taking any nsaid pain medications such as Aleve or Motrin? Those can also cause stomach problems.
Hope that you will be finding some relief soon!
Molly
Hi Molly,
Yes to both. I had an ulcer many years ago when I was in my early twenties and I have been taking alot of Aleve lately.
I was wondering if we were still able to get an ulcer with our new pouch, which is one of the reasons I asked the question. Thanks for your input. I will contact my PCP today and make an appointment.
Kay
I agree that it sounds like an ulcer. Between the caffeine and the nsaids there is a good chance that this is what it is. You will always be susceptible to ulcers no matter how far out you are. Stop the caffeine and nsaids immediately and do just what you plan on doing, see your doctor. Hope you feel better soon!! ~ Terisa
I have had the same problem - and it's usually coffee or orange crystal lite that will cause it to flair up. I was wondering if stress is a factor too - since that seems to be in greater abundance than coffee or anything I put in my mouth these days.
I try not to drink decaf coffee, as it seems to cause more irritation. I don't drink lemonade (sf or otherwise), or eat any pineapple or other citrus bc that causes problems for me as well.
Lately I have been getting the burning pain when I am getting ready for bed. I try not to eat after 9 pm and it just seems wrong to eat something, but doing so seems to ease the sensation.
Good Luck!!

Thanks for your responses. I went to the doctor and he put me back on aciphex for awhile as I think the problem is stress induced (new job). It has helped immediately and of course, once you identify the problem you can deal with it better....so I just need to excerise more to deal with my stress!!!
I don't have time to come to the forum much, but it is reassuring to know that I can always turn to you when I need information and reassurance.
Have a great weekend! I know I will cause I don't have to work
