Wednesday Weigh-Ins!!
Hi Everyone! Happy Weigh Day! Hope you all are feeling good about your eating and exercise programs and if you aren't you are at least trying to take the baby steps it requires to get back on track! I think many of us are realizing hard core how much harder it *can* be after one year if you let your good habits slip. A couple things I have noticed and would like to share are:
1) The weight comes back on much quicker then it is to get off now. (remember preop days? yep, I feel its back to the same way).
2) I can definently eat more after one year out and so what we put in our mouths is even more important than ever because the calories add up. **I bought a new book based on "volumetrics".***
The name of the book is "The Volumetrics Eating Plan" by Barbara Rolls, PhD - here is a link to the book: http://www.volumetricseatingplan.com/
Here is a review of the book by WebMD: http://www.webmd.com/diet/volumetrics-what-it-is
You might wanna try checking it out, its got some sound principles on ways to eat more nutritious and get more "bang for your buck" as far as eating and volume in concerned. For many of you, 2-4 oz may still fill you up (bless your pouches) others of us could use these principles if your volume is more like mine at max capacity, 1-1 1/2 cups.
3) My weight is VERY unstable.. I go from one extreme to the next so easily.. not sure if that is due to some of my own issues with female stuff or what the deal is but it can be very frustrating. I have to learn to not be so focused on the scale #, because with its drastic swings these days, its enough to drive me batty!!! but some of it is my own fault for when I don't always eat the best. I am trying really hard to make better changes. I remember the first year and how much "easier" it was just to be on track.. I am gonna get there and make it a point to stay on, its so much easier to stay on then get off and try to get back on again. Life has calmed down for me a lot so no excuses. My main project is putting together a Weight Loss Surgery Survival Guide for my support group next month that I am presenting at so that will help keep me in line as well.
So share with us some of your musings about how things are different for you now that you are 1 year out, how you are handling the changes and what tips or advice you have for the group.
A friend of mine shared a quote with me today, I would like to share it with the rest of you..
"Striving for perfection is the greatest stopper there is.. It's your excuse to yourself for not doing anything. Instead, strive for excellence, doing your best."
- Sir Laurence Olivier
Such a good quote and reminds us that we are human, we will faulter and make mistakes but just try to do your best.. and that is *your* excellence.
On with the weigh-ins!

SO not worth getting off plan folks.. try to do your best each and every day. There is also a lot of "bounceback" with that 5dpt (I agree with you molly) when you go back to eating even "good for you" whole grains, lean meats, low fat dairy and veggies.. so not sure how much I like that but it does get the carb monster off the back and makes you appreciate the diet you once neglected, the "good" diet.
So how did you do today? Please share with us! Here is to another week
Well, I finally made it to Onederland! Went ot Las Vegas last week from Tues to Friday so did not weigh at all and I spent the majority of 2 says in a conference room for computer programming upgrade training (try saythnig that fast 3 times!). Got home on Friday, weighted on Sat. and low-and-behold I was at 196! Still stable at that today too! I was afraid of a bounce back after I got home but nadda!

I am now 1/2 the woman I once was!
Great job getting that regain gone, gone, gone! You're doing awesome!!!
Thank you for the excellent ideas and the great quote...I have to print this post and save it for my folder. You always manage to share the best things with us, Melissa.
Here's stats first:
HW: 268
SW: 230
LW: 136
CW: 132 WHEW!!!! (actually started the test at 141.5 but I was too ashamed to report that)
That's a bounceback of 1 pound (got to 131 on the 5DPT) which ain't bad but I know for a fact that I am really, really going to have to stay on my toes to keep it. And boy, am I with you on the wild weight swings, Melissa. I am beginning to wonder if it is something that 'just happens' around this time post-op. Have you done any snooping on the October or Nov. 06 boards to know if they've talked about it? If I find the time, I may just go digging into their recent archives to see what I can find.
At support group, it is often mentioned that once your weight is off more than a year or 18 months you will find it so much easier to regain than ever before so you really have to be vigilant. Man, do I believe it for myself NOW!
How are things different for me now this far out? Foods look a lot more tempting to me and I feel decidedly less strict about my self-imposed rules about things like no bread, no pasta. There have been times when cooking dinner for the family that I'll put a spoonful or just a bite of a piece of pasta or potato or such in my mouth and it makes me mad. It is a day-to-day battle to remember that it is my CHOICE to live this way and if I choose not to then I also choose to regain weight and lose my health.
Also, my attitude towards exercise is changing from a year ago. I did it only because I had to and I endured it, never enjoying it. Still at times it is a chore to make myself do it but I honestly find myself having fun and when those endorphins kick in during the workout it is thrilling. It reminds me of how the motherhood hormones used to kick in during breastfeeding and make the whole world rosy and happy. You gotta love how the human body is so wonderfully designed!
This whole past year I've been all about playing little headgames with myself and making sure that I never feel deprived...lots and lots of substitutions. I am still doing that but there have been changes in the substitutions. These days I'm watching what things are sweetened with and avoiding those high fructose corn syrup products as much as possible. Who needs more addiction! I'm struggling with my sweets addiction and no doubt will do that forever. It's just a fact that has to be dealt with.
Enough rambling...have a great week everybody and let's all have a great weigh-in next week!
Wow Molly SO EXCELLENT! I am so inpsired to get back down to my all time low of 131.6 or lower now.. You have done terrific on getting that weight back off.. congratulations!
I agree with you on your answer to how things are different 1 year out... many of the things that may not have sat well, do now and also find its easier to just "take 1 bite".. argh.. you are so right.. I really have tried very hard these past few days not to "pick" and I have done well with that.. those cals do add up! Getting back into my exercise has made all the difference in the world for me..it breaks up my day, makes me feel like I have accomplished something terrific, gives that rush of endorphins you speak of that I LOVE SO MUCH, and then makes me wanna be good with my eating, b/c why screw up my day when I pushed it with the exercise? So I realize now more than ever I gotta keep that up.
Thanks for your response Molly, as always a well thought out one and gives me things to ponder over, I learn so much from you. thanks a billion!
Yes, to a good week again next week everyone!

My wt is pretty stable hoever I have not made goal yet 160

I actually eat about the same amt as I did 6 mo out. I quit weighing my food but I do eyeball it quite well. I haven't had alot of time to focus on me, but what I want to do is
really watch it during the week and on the weekend indulge a little. I am so active on the weekends that I burn it off. Anywho all is good for me.
Love you guys!!! Erin
