Hi BG, Well, at least you realize that you're getting in to some old, bad habits. It would help all of us, to help you, if you could elaborate on that for us. Are you grazing, drinking with meals (not just the occasional sipping on a tea while out to dinner), eating empty calories, ignoring your protein, etc? We've got a pretty good group here, with lots of different experiences and insight, so let's see if we have any ideas to help.

Well, first thing to do is get away from the drinking with meals, cause that will cycle in to more grazing, as you wash your food through your pouch faster. But you know that! As for grazing, have you noticed if it's all the time, certain times of the day (where you can replace it with another activity? Like it happens after lunch, around 2 pm.. maybe it's time to adjust your schedule to take a walk, clean house, read for a bit, etc.) I found that when I went through my grazing period, it wasn't so much hunger or even chewing, it was finding something to distract myself with, until the urge passed. I now settle for either a walk, a good book, or if all else fails, Wether's SF candy to suck on, or a SF Lifesavers Mint. As for the empty calories, that can be rough if you have anothers in the house that get resentful of you tossing out the candy, breads, sweets, and other treats. Is that an issue at your house, or can you do a "cupboard cleaning"?

I think most of us, if not all of us on the Dec board has messed up at one time or another. Please do not feel so bad about it. Something about after our one year anniversary and most of the weight we wanted gone is no longer there we somehow feel it is "ok" to snack a little when we shouldn't. The key is to realize it, admit it, and then to do something about it. It is never too late and there is no reason you cannot continue to lose more weight. Make today a new day in your journey. A year ago in December you began a new life. You started to lose your weight and eat healthy. Start there again. Make a new anniversary if that will help you. There is absolutely nothing in this life that you cannot accomplish and as long as you tell yourself that everyday it will make it a little easier. Of course making it through the temptations is very challenging. You already know that you should not drink while you eat. Make this your first accomplishment. Today tell youself you will not do this and that you will drink plenty of water on top of that. When you feel the urge to graze you need to find something to replace the behavior. You can walk, drink water, read, journal why you feel the way you do. Anything healthy to replace those habits. I am glad that you came to us for support. This board is full of support for each other and we want nothing but success for each one of us including you. Take care and best of luck in starting your new life "again". ~ Terisa

Hi I have been getting back to my old habits also. After the holidays I was up 6 pds. I about *rapped. Sooo I have been better about FitDay and logging in what I eat. (I have a HUGE CARB problem) and I joined a gym and even better I have been GOING. I found getting up at 445 to 5 in the morning and going before I work is so much better for me. Once I am home I can come up with a million reasons on why I can not go. I have 2 kids and have kid junk at my house..I bought a bag of Conversation hearts this week and when I put them in my cart I knew I was making a mistake but my reasoning was it is almost VALENTINES day and they will look so nice in a bowl. Well I picked every yellow one out and ate them and then started on a different color then any color and yesterday I packed them up and sent them to work with my husband. They only look nice in a bowl if they are actually in the bowl..they look really really bad on my butt which is where they were heading! I KEEP reminding myself I did this to get healthy and I want to be at goal..I still have a way to go and I will get there. Yes, it will take me longer then others but I need to realize that is OK. PM me if you ever want to talk..we are ALL here for each other and we can do this. This room is wonderful and everyone is so supportive. Hugs Diana

Congratulations on taking the steps to get control again. If you've read many of our daily eats posts here (which, btw, are really helpful in keeping yourself accountable and staying mostly on-track) you know that I am one of the worst offenders with grazing. It is a huge problem for me. My nut. has a really good post-op food plan and it allows for eating six times a day. I try to make sure that I won't have to list too many more entries than the six but there are times when I've got 8 or 9 and it really makes me cringe. Journalling your food is excellent! Are you using one of the free online services? It was a tremendous help to me once I started doing it because I had no idea how sneaky those little calories are and how fast they add up to a huge pile!!! It is far too easy to have food amnesia and forget just exactly how much all that food adds up to if you don't keep accountable. The one I use is Sparkpeople.com but you already know there is also Fitdayl.com and have also prob.. heard about CalorieKing.com. The important part is starting to use one of them and sticking with it. Hope that you will keep hanging out here with us, we are all in this struggle together. Hugs!!! Molly
