update on my daughter Carolyn

Hi everyone. I wrote several weeks ago about my daughter, Carolyn, getting Guillain Barre Syndrome. I would just like to update you all on how she is doing. Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. It's so nice to know that you're thinking of us. My daughter, Carolyn, just went to Rehab yesterday. As you know she has Guillain Barre Syndrome which basically attacks the nerves which then stop feeding the muscles resulting in lack of muscle use. We think she has finally hit bottom and is now on her way back up to recovery. It's going to be a long and hard journey for her with physical therapy but just knowing that the disease has stopped it's progress is a gift in itself. The past 3 weeks has been a nightmare for Carolyn along with her husband, 2 boys and us Grandparents. We have all pulled together to do whatever needs to be done. Between my husband and I, the In-Laws and great friends we've managed to care for the boys and for Carol and her husband. Please continue to pray for her. I truely believe that God's grace and help has brought her back to us. I am doing okay. I must say I am getting a lot of exercise which is good for me. I do think that God had me have the Gastric Bypass just for this purpose. I would never have been able to care for my 2 Grandsons if I were heavy. I have reached my personal goal weight and I am thrilled with that. Again, thank you for thinking of us. You are great!!! Kathi

Hi Kathy - Thanks for sharing your wonderful news. I must say it is quite touching how everyone has really pulled together as a family when faced with something so difficult. How fortunate for Carolyn, her husband and their boys. I will keep you all in my prayers. Terisa

Hi, Kathi... This is such great news. Hoping that physical therapy goes well and that she regains her full muscle strength again. Glad that she's gotten quick care and had her "support group" there to keep life going as smoothly as possible. Sounds like she is in really good care; hope that you can catch-up on all of the sleepless nights. Did the Drs give you a reason why she got so ill? GBS seems to be a mystery. ((((Big Hug)))) Ro

Hi Ro. You asked if the doctors gave a reason why she got so ill. It's so strange but no one knows what causes GBS. They seem to lean towards it being caused by a virus. New Years Eve Carol got a stomach virus for several days and then GBS followed. When Carol was 8 years old she had GBS and it followed the same pattern. She had a virus previous to getting it. They said that the chances of someone getting GBS twice in a lifetime is like getting hit by lightening twice. With her luck we told her she should have hit the lottery!! LOL.
