Wow, you got your test off to a great start. Too bad you don't like split pea soup. For me, it is a problem food because I love it and can just keep eating and eating and eating.... Those carbs just pour right down that sweet little funnel! Congrats for signing up for the 5K...that's great! Molly

I wish I was there with you to do this 5k with you.. its on my list of "to do's" and I did not get to do it over thanksgiving b/c of the weather. I work all saturdays so it makes it hard for me to participate in one.. but it is a goal of mine! You can do it.. i AM SOOOO EXCITED FOR YOU! Great goal!

Hi Dawn. I started the 5 day pouch test today myself. I got off track again this weekend. A girl brought in all this sugar free candy and there was popcorn and well.. I am pretty sure I am pmsing.. (I HOPE ANYWAYS!) and I indulged.. my weekend at work was HORRIBLE.. normally don't have weekends that bad.. and I decided conciously I was gonna eat out of stress and JUST DIDN"T CARE.. so bad I know.. I deserve to be smacked totally. So here I am.. I went to the grocery store, bought everything i need for this pouch test. I am brewing a pot of the ham and split pea soup. I made this one because of the lower calories.. the others were just so HIGH cal.. I know you said you didn't like it, I think it will be "Ok" and for me thats better than loving a soup right now.. I won't wanna run to it 24/7 ya know? Gotta get back on track. I just woke up and had a choc protein shake made with powder and 4 oz of light vanilla soy milk.. honestly it tasted just fine.. I can do this! We can do this!!! Let's keep eachother in check ok? Since I started later today... I am doing liquids today, tomorrow and the next day.. I would rather do 2.5 days instead of 1.5... so wednesday I will do soft protein (I plan on following everything they say plus adding some cottage cheese pancakes in there as they are soft!) and saturday will be my firm protein day which will be fine b/c I work that day. The scale is way up b/c of fluid, pms and me being bad bad bad.. carbs are controlling me and gotta get control of that! I am hoping to be back down to 132 by next Monday when I leave for KC to fly out for my cruise. As for the 3.11 miles not running the whole time.. just doing it.. no matter how ya do it.. is awesome. If I lived close to you, I'd be doing it with you without a doubt. Thanks for keeping me inspired.. I am on board with this with you. Honestly, I am sorry you messed up and like you said, its ok... I am sorta glad that you started over today.. i can do this with you!!!!! Keep in touch with me ok? I am very excited. *hugs*

Did your split pea soup turn out like mega thick? Like not much liquid and looks like mostly all peas/ham/carrot/onion? Hello how does that constitute as a liquid? Lots of carbs in a cup serving I would think.. more than what the nutritional value states on the site.. cals: 184, 13 grams of protien, 4 grams of fat and 25 grams of carbs (10 fibers). What the heck? Seems awfully THICK for that low of stats? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Melissa---Greg made the soup --and it was THICK THICK....maybe that is why I disliked it so much--i almost had to chew it ! (yucky) His suggestion would be to add more chicken broth---it has hardly any calories or anything and a lot of flavor so add more broth......since this is my second time around i did not make any soup--i used the campbells.....(but they are so so low in protein & high in sodium) ---this morning i had sf, ff lemon pudding for breakfast.....again low in protein.....i have never invested in any protein powder.......but i have a EAS protein shake i will have for lunch and some yogurt so that should be ok.......whether or not i have lost any weight i am doubtful it is only day 2 but i do feel better ---it is like detox. I went to bed last night at 8:30---you heard me right --i slept 9.5 hours.........Hang in there sista......we can do it.....i sure wish i was looking to weigh 132 at the end of this! I just want to break freaking 190! Dawn

For a quick alternative to making the soup, you might want to try the following frozen brand. Suggestions: When you add more broth, microwave it with a bay leaf in a mug. Let it steep like tea and then add it to the soup. A bit of carrot juice or carrot baby food might add some taste also. Tabatchnick's Low Sodium Pea Soup (1 pouch) Cal: 140 Fat: 0 g Chol: 0 mg Sodium: 50 mg Potassium: 90 mg Carbs: 34 g Fiber: 14 g Sugar: 0 g Protein 13 g

Thanks Dawn, I mean it was nice that it was so filling b/c I wasn't wanting food for 4 hours so I think I will keep it thick, almost couldn't finish a cup and if I "tighten" up at all it may be 1/2-3/4 cup today, we will see! The lemon pudding sounds delish.. I have made that before and put vanilla protein powder it and its quite yummy. I love the following shakes: Matrix Cookies and Cream.. my husband HATES HATES HATES protein powders.. he will drink this one.. no kidding. It tastes like ice cream and you can get it of Susan Maria's site. I also love Gourmet When Chocolate Mint Chip.. a friend gave it to me so it might be able to be purchased off Susan site or you can use any chocolate protein powder and add a couple drops of peppermint extract, can blend it and make it cold or warm it up.. very soothing on a pouch. Love those both a lot. I also make a SF Khalua Mocha frap. Basically just choc protein powder, decaf esresso, SF Khalua (get it at walmart in the coffee aisle) and milk/vanilla soy milk.. blended and poured over ice. Thats about the only ones I have liked postop.. other than EAS ones.. I also bought some lower fat cheese/broccoli soup.. I think I will puree some broccoli into it to make it thicker.. you are right tho, not much protein and a lot of salt I would add my unflavored protein to it but ICK.. its so nasty tasting.. id rather gag. I should just toss it.. its so disgusting.. "flavorless" NOT! Keep up the good work, lets keep in touch! Hugs!
