HOW THE FRIG DOES THIS HAPPEN?
I had surgery a year ago today. But since having surgery, I have never and when I tell you never, I have never felt the full feeling. I have been able to eat as much as I want. Not as much as I could eat pre-surgery, but much more than a wls patient should be able to eat. Now, what I would do was I would measure out my food and stop eating when I knew I had eaten enough. I never felt full. Well, I went on a spiritual fast with someone from this board a few weeks ago and since going on that fast, it seems as if it kick started my pouch. Now when I eat, I can only eat a few bites and feel full.
Now, let me remind you that I have never felt the full feeling, so this was sorta different for me. I actually thought that something was wrong with me. But now, my pouch is working. Go figure!!! Have you ever heard of this before? A pouch not working for an entire year and then all of a sudden it starts working. Weird I know, but this is exactly what happened to me.
Well, I just wanna thank God for this blessing......Its like I just had surgery....I guess I can start counting the honeymoon from this point. Honestly, my weight had come to a hault about a few months ago. I was fluctuating back and forth and since my pouch started working, I have lost 7 pounds. Thank you Jesus.
Now, please tell me that someone else has gone through this......
How wonderful that you have been given this blessing!!! Congratulations and have a great 'honeymoon' from here on out. You have had such a struggle up to this point and deserve this so much. I was blessed with a good determination this past year because of my former wls failure so not feeling 'full' wasn't a worry for me. I'd get a sensation that I equate with full and know to stop and that has been good enough for me. But I never had a stall or thought my pouch quit working so I never had to go on a fast. However...I did really make a big push effort the few days before my one year appointment so that the numbers would be great and it was an eye opener!
I had forgotten that I really COULD survive on a lot less food than I was accustomed to eating so that was a very good reminder. Plus, I lost a few extra pounds and it was fun to know that if I worked at it, I still could lose a little. And not eating as much seemed to help shrink my pouch a teensy bit more so that it became more responsive. Made me a firm believer in that pouch resetting theory! If I ever think I need it, I will definitely do the 5-day pouch test.
Keep up all your hard work, you are doing great!!!

Hi, Treena! So glad to hear that you are having success... 7 lbs is GREAT!
I did hear about the "never feeling full" situation, but it was explained in this way:
Some WLS patients seem to have less sensitivity after surgery; almost like a numbing.
Until their pouch regains all of it's feeling, the fullness feeling just didn't happen to the person who told me about this. She measured her food so that she was pretty sure that her meals were balanced. It was very frustrating for her. I wasn't certain if this was what was really happening, but it seems to have worked. Hope that you have continued losses and many blessings throughout the upcoming year!
