~Tendonitis---there is a name for these leg cramps: beware~

Hey December grads: Here's the deal. Even if you take all your vitamins, get in all your water (and then some), eat your protein, and stretch before and after exercise, we are at risk for tendonitis post operatively. After lots of labs (all came back fine), Doppler ultrasounds in both legs to rule out blood clots (fine too), there is a reason I've been having these killer Charlie Horses in both legs! So, if you start out having leg cramps at any point, and are exercising daily as I have been with cardio....just be aware the pain can worsen, and those leg cramps may actually be minute, small tears in your tendons. Apparently, I caused this by daily exericse. So, now I am on a new workout regime alternating jogging with walking each day. All with the oversight of my MD, and I am going back in 2 weeks to be fitted for knee braces too, for added leg support during workouts. I am still allowed to weight train any day of the week on my upper torso too, which is great. I guess my legs are letting me know that after years of carrying around that weight, I can't exercise like a rockstar just quite yet But man, are my calves looking good these days! Good luck to all, and I am just glad to have some answers....this leg pain has been a pain in my......legs! (ha ha, my poor attempt at a joke)..... Best, Megan

I have had the same pain starting from the top of my foot and going up the front of my legs. I haven't been able to workout for the past couple of weeks so it has gotten better but I just know when I start working out again it will most likely start back up. Yes it is a BIG pain in the legs he he cute joke Hope you get better soon Mini me

Melissa: I posted on the main board several times, but NO ONE seemed to know what I was talking about, and a lot of people thought it was low potassium, which with great labs I know wasn't the case with me (and I eat 2 small bananas a day!)... Thanks for posting, it's good to know I am not the only one!!!! Megan

Megan, so sorry to hear you have been enduring such pain! Thank goodness you got someone to take it seriously and run enough tests to figure out what caused it. Will you have to do any physical therapy too? When I had tears in my biceps tendons the pt was invaluable for healing as well as learning how to strengthen the muscles around the bicep to give better support and heal. Hope that the new brace will be a great help and congratulations on your great calves. Molly Nighty night!

Molly: Thanks for the support! It's something I have had going on for about 4 months, with intense pain x3 weeks...I haven't really talked about it because I tried everything under the sun to get it to work itself out and it wouldn't. But, I am ok with the diagnosis, and feel like my MD has a good handle on the situation. I am also thankful that my labs are awesome. All were within optimal range. For me, it's been more of a mental defeat---being told I can't exercise every day as I want is a letdown. If more WLS folks had to receive this news after working as hard as the December group has, there'd be a lot more posts about it, and support messages flying back and forth. Again, thanks for the shout out...I will keep on keepin' on, and move it on down the road Megan
