Instant Oatmeal Packets
I bet it is because it takes your body longer to break down the grain so it doesn't hit your bloodstream as quickly. But my problem with eating steel cut oats is that I can't just cook a teensy portion of it and then I end up eating too much. So I sacrifice the quality of the food for portion control. Haven't eaten much oatmeal lately myself but now that I can control the add-ins I will make up a few batches for testing. I think this will be an excellent use of that freeze-dried dehydrated fruit I got at Costco. It has absolutely nothing added to it so I only add the fruit calories and can control that so easily. They are really yummy mixed in with my Fage yogurt and cereal in the morning at work too.
Had a delish breakky today: cottage cheese pancakes made with brown rice flour and 15 dried blueberries. Oh baby! Also, I made myself a batch of homemade sf chai tea so now I have the store-bought decaf stuff as well as some full-caf. chai. I'm covered, day or night!
Ah.. makes sense on the grain taking longer to break down. I personally don't have the desire to make it from scratch either and will prob just stick to the instant stuff and I don't eat it often just when I get a kick for it. I was curious though why one package even with protein powder wasn't filling me up.. PK and I got to talking and the ones from walmart the generic brands have a lot less in them vs. the quaker weight smart. It was like I needed just a few more bites to feel satisfied and with the Quaker kind it gives me the satiety I was looking for. Interesting how that works. I was buying it b/c it has less carbs and calls... well yeah less everything when you take 1/3 of the portion away! duh!
That freeze dried fruit sounds yummy at costo. I saw some in an island when I was visiting mom last time.. it was near the frozen section sort of across from the cereals in the middle aisle.. i did look at it and thought about getting it, not sure if it was freeze dried but dried fruit of some sort. Those cottage cheese pancakes using the blueberries sounds delish as does the chia tea.. yum. Love the fall don't u? Hugs!
Thanks for this recipe Molly!!!
Also, thanks for all your links to sparkpeople.com. I have joined the site and just love it.
I started thinking about the habits I am developing and I wasn't pleased with how I was approaching food prep. I need to be more consciencous about what I am buying and what I am preparing. Keeping track of my consumption - as well as having to enter the nutritional information into the computer - has really been helpful.
Then I can look over the week or the month. I have to say I'm not really eating as bad or as much as I thought I was.
Keep sharing this infor with us Molly - it is so helpful.
