Instant Oatmeal Packets

From seeing the daily eats posts I know that there are several of us here who eat oatmeal regularly and if you are like me, it is nice to use the instant packets for portion control as well as convenience. While searching around on the internet recently for something else I came across this recipe for making your own instant oatmeal. OK, it sounds a little too Martha Stewart to go that far? But, you can control what kind of sweetener you add (or don't) and what other go-ins and flavours too. You won't be limited to what is available commercially. I'm going to give this a try sometime this fall but thought I'd post this before I forget. http://www.recipes-from-friends.com/a2004-2.pl?frames=n;read=30848 Hope it's helpful! Molly

I normally wake up at 3 a.m. for work so getting up at 4 today was sleeping in! After poking around on the computer awhile I decided to walk to the grocery store for a few ingredients for new recipes and it was still dark and SO COLD! Guess I forget how cold I get without all my normal bodyfat. That little reminder was sort of a vanity-plus. LOL Have a good weekend, get your work caught up and go home to enjoy yourself! Molly

Hi Molly, You are more Martha Stewart than Martha is!! Let me know how this turns out for you. I really love the sf oatmeal I get. It is apple cinnamon kroger (store) brand and it is very good. I cannot even imagine me doing anything with a food processor. That could be dangerous Hope you have a wonderful weekend!! Terisa

We don't have any Kroger stores here although our local chain 'Fred Meyer' is owned by Kroger. I hardly ever shop there because to get to a big enough one for a decent selection is too far a drive. Sounds like Kroger carries a lot of nice diet products. Food processors are such a time saver! I've been using them since my first one back in '83 and hate being without one the few times I have. I even have a little baby version too. Have a good weekend! Molly

Hi Molly thanks for the link, however I cannot eat oatmeal or any other cereal for that matter. I dumped so hard on Oatmeal I was shaking. Regular cereal makes me dump too!! It's such a bummer too b/c I love cereal. Last week I ate a little bit of pasta (2 oz)on Tue at lunch and Wed at dinner. Both times I had the worst intestional cramping for like 3 hrs. So grains for some reason make me sick , sugar I tolerate ok, I don't test it eating large portions of sugary stuff. just a bite here and there. Sorry to vent just I know you guys understand!!! Erin

Oh my gosh, that's awful! I am so thankful for dumping on the few things that I do but if I dumped on cereal it would really save me a lot of calories because that fear is such an excellent reason to stay away from trigger foods, isn't it? Venting is healthy, don't worry about it. We are all here for each other so anytime you need to get something out you go right ahead. hugs! Molly

thanks sweetie....by the way have you been doing any gardening lately?? In Az it's warm during the day and cool at night so my little flower bed looks great. I planted a small mum last year and it tripled in size and is going to bloom anyday now...

Gardening...oy! It has been on the top of my weekend list for about a month now and I've managed to put it off each time. We have had two hard frosts now so everything is dying out here and the fall colors are beautiful. You must be having really fine weather there now and I bet your mum is going to be gorgeous! It has warmed up enough out there that I really should be outside working. Sigh...guess I will pretty soon. Molly

Yum Molly, lets you control some of the preservatives and other icky stuff by doing it this way for sure! Ok I have a question, is it better to eat the slow cooked oatmeal (like steel oats) over quick oats? I read that in a "women's" magazine not too long ago, better on the glycemic control and the fiber is better I read. Not sure if it was true but it was something I was gonna investigate. If so I wonder if I should start making mine totally from scratch definently more time consuming. I also saw that "simply harvest" in the stores by Quaker.. stats were "ok" but looks very "natural". Hmmm.. thanks again I like this idea and u got me pondering away on stuff as always.. lol.
