Tuesday Weekly Weigh-In!!! 10/23/07
Happy Tuesday weigh in all! Hope you had a good week! We are busy working on some home remodeling projects and is making time fly for me. Doing a new handrail, some carpeting and some painting. Be nice to have this done prior to the holidays though!
I was having some major issues this week with PMS munchies and it seems each month it only gets worse and worse for me. Not sure why? You would think as my weight loss is slowing down it would get better with the hormonal stuff??? Sorry to Steve in advance here but I keep starting my cycles earlier and earlier. I was a bit nervous when the munchies came so quick this month but the cycle soon followed so it makes sense. So much for this Nuvaring I am on, totally giving up on it now. I may try the patch or maybe go back and try the pill again. I have to ask what you girls are using and what is working for you, I could use the suggestions right now!
QUESTION: Do many of you find you need less sleep during surgery? How are your energy levels overall?
My answer: I have tons more energy than preop to the point that I think that is why I started running in the first place, to "work off the energy" if you will. Most nights I sleep between 5-6 hours total and feel good on that amount. Before surgery I slept anywhere from 8-12 hours a night. Ya get a lot more done in a day when you can move easier and not sleep so much of the day away. I know I have heard of others that are postop where the energy is lower after surgery, I cannot imagine this and feel sorry for that have experienced this phenomenon. Specific question to Shawn!! How is your energy different with the pregnancy than when you were pregnant preop? I have wondered this also..

How did you do this week???
Morning Melissa. Glad I had time to chime in today. *I'm taking the day off...didn't send the kids to school, etc. Bad, I know...but I needed it.*
Anyway...down to business

I'm going to call this week a victory for me because I didn't have a gain. I AM feeling extra fat this week and swear that I've got a noticeable increase in my midsection, face, and legs. Now, this MAY only be noticed by me...but it's still noticed. Supposedly during this specific stage in the pregnancy, extra fluids (blood, amniotic, etc.) are coming into play now. I'm hoping for no gain for at least another 2 months ****il I'm in my 3rd trimester)...I think I'll be comfortable with that.
To the question...
Specific question to Shawn!! How is your energy different with the pregnancy than when you were pregnant preop? I have wondered this also..
I'm not sure the variation here on this because there ARE different factors. Honestly...I have LESS energy during this pregnancy than I did with my pre-op pregnancies. I don't know if it's because I'm older...huge gap between pregnancies...I was 19 with my first, 23 with my second, and 29 with my third...I'm 35 now. It MAY be the fact that I now have 3 to take care of already with all the added stresses of it...it could be because of depression, or a combination of all of those things combined. All I know is, dang it, I'm tired. I also never suffered morning sickness with any of my other pregnancies and with this one, it lasted for what seemed like forever.
Now the PLUS side to this is, I AM able to get around much easier so far. While I didn't gain a lot during pregnancies...I still felt weighted down. I don't feel like that now. I think it's because I'm mostly careful about what I eat and I'm making conscious decisions about what goes in my mouth. Now, I didn't say they were all wise choices, but I AM conscious of them and make better choices than I would have prior. Progress is progress, I have to remind myself...baby steps are steps at least.
Glad you were able to return to your precycle weight. I know what an anxiety it can be watching the scale go up a bit after it's been steady heading downward. Hope you had a great weekend too!
As far as birth control....erm...I've got nothing for you. I wouldn't recommend our prior method. On that note though, Erik is getting the old snippity on Nov. 2nd. *huge sigh of relief for me* I just got too nervous thinking about having my tubes tied. I've had so many issues with my ovaries (PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome) that I didn't want to mess with them anymore. Besides...it's the least he can do, right??
Wow, you are early today but it's good for me because I need some accountability.
Last time I reported my stats were on 09/25 and I was at 197Lbs, so for today I have:
SW: 320
LW: 197(on 09/25)
CW: 192
I was 190.5 on 10/14(my 10th month anniversary) and today I am up to 192, a gain in 10 days, wow!!. It's reality check time. Need to gain control of myself since as you can see it's easy to put on the pounds again. I am going to have to make some time and start posting my intakes into fitday so I can see what I am doing.
As for your question about energy level and sleep time I would say it's based on the fact that we are not carrying those extra pounds anymore and we do not need to rest as much. I also think it has to do with motivation, the less you weigh, the more motivation you seem to have and the higher the desire to do many things and never be tired.
Let's make this week an excellent one and may all of us reach our goals and desires for the week

Hi Melissa and friends,
In response to the first question- got my tubes tied. I have 2 kids- 1 biological 3 yrs old; 1 step- 16 yrs old. They are too expensive for us to consider anymore. And I was extremely fertile so I had to do something fast, especially after I started to lose weight because of that.
2nd question: My energy level is off the charts. I can remember the summer months, I would require a nap on my off days of at least 2-3 hours, thats after waking at about 10am . I would normally get to bed about midnight. I always had a "sleep debt" to pay it seems. Now, I make myself go to bed at night because I am a night owl and will stay awake far too long. But the NEED is no longer there. Even while I have been off for the past 4 weeks, I have napped in the afternoon very rarely and I am up by 9am each morning. I have been going to bed about 1130 or midnight while off. Tonight, I will try to get lights out by 1030 because I start back to work tomorrow. I feel good when I work out, I can run longer and harder and I dont get tired just doing normal things anymore.

CW: 143 (today) I am extremely happy to stay below 145. Even though goal weight is 130. I believe I will get down to about 135 and will be happy with that too. I just wanted 130 as a cushion. If I can maintain 145 and no more, for life, I will be happy. Plus, I am wearing size 4 and really DO NOT WANT to wear size 2. The choices are really limited. I NEVER thought I would say that.
Good luck to you with your cycles Melissa,--mine seem to come faster in the month too but they are really short so I like that.
