In desperate need for answers.
From day one I have been a SLOW LOOSER.
My starting weight in December 2006 was 245; 10 months out I am between 167 and 163. I walk and run 4 miles five days per week. I meet with my personal trainer 2 days per week for strength training.
I am not complaining, just asking is this normal? For the last two months I am going between 177 - 163. I can't seem to move past that...My goal is to be at 125....ADVICE PLEASE.
hi,
we had our surgery on the same day and are about the same weighloss wise. i'm down from about 225 to about 135 (bouncing btw. that and 138, goal weight 115) but my starting weight was probably closer to 215-220 (225 was when they weighed me a couple of days post wls and i was pumped full of liquids and air.
your exercise routine sounds amazing and, assuming you eat fewer calories than your body burns, the scale WILL move eventually.
what's your daily food intake like?
I am to what is called a slow loser. I lost very good at the beginning. It is very easy to get discouraged. I was so mad at myself because i would read the what did you eat today posts.. and i felt like everyone was losing and eating way to much food and how could i not be then i started noticing others that weight was higher than my starting weight were now passing me up with their weightloss..Just remember not to compare yourself to anyone we are all different just take a look at your self and say now am i doing what i should?? And take a look at what you eat because even though you do your exercise well something you are eating could be working against that. I have not lost in nearly 2 months actually i have gained about 12 lbs from my lowest.. I was not eating enough food and instead of losing weight my body would do the opposite. I would say get in to see your nut and see what they can find out. We can lose some more and we will yes it will slow down.. I remember that around month 2 on i only lost about 5 lbs a month!!!! well that was up until month 8 when i started gaining..
Good luck Take it one day at a time!
By the way Surgery weight was 239
Dee, I think you need to post your daily eats so Melissa can take a look at it. She has more medical knowledge than most of us and may be able to give you an answer. My guess is that you are either eating too little or too much or maybe you just have some personal metabolism issues that are holding you back.
Do you use Fitday.com or Sparkpeople.com or a food journalling site like that? If not, sign up and give it a try to start tracking your daily calories, carbs, fats and proteins. It is so helpful to me.
Good luck and hang in there...believe it or not you ARE doing great! You sound very determined and even if it takes you longer than others to get to goal you CAN do it. And just think...by losing slower than other people your skin is probably adjusting better and may need less (or none!) plastic surgery at the end.

Hi Dee!
While my starting weight was higher 295.....i am a really slow loser too.....i now weigh 191! so while i am not "obese" any longer.. I am still significantly overweight.
I am 5'7 so i will not be "normal" until i am at 159. So I have 32 lbs to go before i am in the normal range...My goal is 145. To prevent myself from being discouraged.. i recommend dont compare yourself to others......my closets gals on this board are Molly and Melissa(whipped scream) and they are tiny girls who lost at a tremendous pace......if i were to compare myself to them---FORGET it ...what i do rather is i draw from their stregnth and i rely on them to keep me honest....i post to the daily eats (not counting this week, I HAD A BAD WEEK) and i ask for their advice......they also have AWESOME recipies. I began writing everything down...and since then- i have increase my rate of weightloss significantly. In the big picture of it all remember--you only have 40lbs to lose....compare that to the 120# that you had to lose when you began.....(sorry if my math is off) .......Keep plugging away ......and let me know if you need anything...this support site has been my ROCK..........
Hi Dee:
I would just advise you to stick to what your clinic recommends for post op calorie intake and to continue on your regimen for exercise. I know that we can tweak our exercise programs and food intake to death, and it won't necessarily benefit us emotionally...if the diet mentality is a part of how we think.
I wish you the best, and encourage you to keep posting on the boards, they are a wonderful place of support!
Behind you 100%!
