Do-over 2 here is my update, I appreciate you asking about me. I will start at the beginning and assume that no one knows what has transpired. Back in Dec as I was doing my pre-op testing (abdominal ultra sound) the Dr found something on my right kidney. That something turned out to be a renal cyst measuring 8cm (about the size of a grapefruit on my fist sized kidney). My surgeon spoke to a Urologist friend of his and got me in to see him almost immediately. The Urologist explained that he thought I should go ahead with my planned WLS. He wanted to watch the cyst (he called it a tumor, but I like the word cyst better) for 6 months and he said any weight I can lose will just make the surgery to remove it that much easier. For anyone who knows about these things the cyst was rated IIF on the Bosniak Scale. Fast forward to June, I had another CT Scan and the U said the cyst had not grown but he wanted it out right away. He wanted to schedule it for July, but I resisted. The Dr. was none too happy with me, but agreed to wait until Sept. I still did not want to have it done and if there would have been any way I could have cancelled and gotten away with it I would have! Sept 6th was the surgery. IT WAS NOT FUN!!!! He insisted the surgery had to be open (due to the size of the cyst, he was worried about rupturing it and possibly spilling malignant cells if there were any). I have an incision that is about belly button level, it starts about where my arm hangs and continues back for approx 9 inches. there is also a wound where the drain was (thankfully that came out before I left the hospital). The other fun thing was just before they wheeled me to the OR, I heard the Dr explaining to my H that they would have to break and remove some ribs to get where they needed to be! Talk about having a hard time breathing! OUCH!!!!! Sorry to say I did not bounce back near as quickly or as easily as I did with the WLS, but today I am feeling somewhat like my old self. Each day gets a little better. I have not used any pain meds since leaving the hospital (I have a very high tolerance for pain and I HATE taking meds) and FINALLY I have been able to sleep some. At first I could not sleep at all, it was agonizing!!!! Tomorrow is my post op appt. I am hoping the pathology report will be back. He said it would take a few weeks to analyze and get the results. What I miss the most is exercising!!!!! I will be happy when I can get back to that. I am so thankful I have lost this weight. I wi**** would have been more, I can really see how much harder it would have been on the Dr doing the surgery and on my recovery if I still weighted 246#! If you are still reading thank you... Sorry this turned in to a book.

Hi, Hockey Mom...Wow, you've been through soooo much! Are you OK? Sounds like you still have a lot of stress...just waiting for the results must be hard. I hope that your cyst days are OVER...and soon you'll be exercising and enjoying life again. ...So glad that you updated your December family... Ro

ROFL! You crack me up, thanks for the laughs. Sadly the "grapefruit" which turned out to be 8.5cm only weighed 64 grams, but I did drop 5# the day after I came home from the hospital, so I was very happy about that! Thanks for your well wishes, your humor is greatly appreciated!

Do not apologize for a long post, I'm so glad you updated all of us on what you've been dealing with. Goodness girl!!! Big gentle hugs for you!!! My dad had kidney surgery a few years ago and it was an ordeal for him to recover from, too. He had a very well encapsulated tumour and is doing just fine. I love Amanda's suggestion...that could have been handy for whittling the waist! (and who knows how much ribs weigh???) You'll be in my prayers tonight and tomorrow for a good post-op appointment. Your new avatar is just gorgeous...you are such a beauty! Molly
